It depends who you're asking..... DBConz will try to persuede you into cleaning it every 50 miles or so
+1 on the 300-400 range. If its really bad, invest in the grundge brush and several cans of brakleen or equivalent. Hey CBRchic-nh! You may need the brakleen![]()

I WD-40 the hell out of mine all the while scrubbing it with a stiff plastic brush. then gave a liberal coat of chain wax.

But the wd and others don't give you that woozy stoned out headache like brakleen. Who wouldn't give that up![]()

it doesnt dry well and goes between the joints on the chain. when you use wax or chain lube (hopefully not), that shit will go flying off your chain. and it sucks if you're like me and dont have a chain guard.
use a chain cleaner with a grunge brush & chain wax. make sure your chain is hot when you apply the wax. takes 20 min to dry, and you're good to go.

just make sure you apply it when the chain is hot. it dries on the chain better, so it'll stick to the chain.
i usually give the chain a good cleaning, then take it for a quick 5 min blast. get back, jack up the bike on the stand, then apply the wax. then wipe off any excess spray.

That would about do it for me, too. I clean mine every 500 cuz I try to remember to do shit in 500 mile intervals to compensate for my compromised brain function.![]()
I normally use WD-40 with a chain wax after but I've found the best stuff I've used thus far is a Teflon cleaner lube by DuPont that a bud recommended. It takes the shit right off and then lubes the chain, too. I like the whole 1-stop-shop thing.
