So I took the girl out (2001 748) for the first time this year 2 Sunday's ago (lil damn)
Drove approx. 3 miles to get gas...now problem
OTWH from the gas station I got on it a little bit, snapped through a few gears. shortly after that about 500 yards down the road she started bogging down when I twisted the throttle. pulled over and she died. Started again immediately ran for 2-3 seconds then died and again. Did this 3-4 times every time I could hear the fuel pump prime, then she wouldn't start at all. Being EFI, I didn't trying to open the throttle at all when starting but there is the smell of gas, as though it had flooded.
I tried to start it the other day and the same thing happens, fuel pump primes, turns over no problem, just won't fire. I've looked on line and have potential resolutions but wanted to get some other ideas of what it might be.
Thanks Kirk
As a side note, last year during the "cooler" mornings, there was a bogging or hesitation during acceleration, but it never died.

But only you can feel the true warmth.
Sounds like your running the bowls dry under load............... time to pull the carbs

You do realize your bike quit right in front of my Dad's house?
Next time just wheel it up the driveway and say you know me. He woulda helped you get it running or at least get it home. He's a capable wrench who owns a Guzzi so he knows italian quirks. Hell, he coulda called me and I woulda been there in 2 minutes from work to assist.

I'd check fuel cap venting and other venting. It's starving for fuel from the sounds of it. Also check voltage, could be that it's making decent spark when cold, but not enough juice to do so once hot.

Isn't the defacto standard to hold the throttle wide open on EFI bikes to shut off the fuel to clear out a flood?
Sounds a lot like fuel starvation, and the venting makes sense. Wouldn't a sticky relay cause the pump to shut off, not operate at partial power? Or are you just on gravity-feed when it's off? Either way, when it doubt hit it with a hammer![]()

Have you tried starting it withe the fuel cap open?
I still think it's the carbs.

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
I bet they're missing altogether.
Do you have a voltmeter? Read the voltage at your fuel pump when running and see if it is getting a full 12V.

Get a couple guys to lift up the fuel cap and try running it to see if it is in fact a vent issue.

You may need a front wheel drive car with snow tires to get the gas cap lifted.
Amsoil or Royal Purple for oil.
Brand of snow tires doesn't matter.
They must have the official snow flake and be studded to get the gas cap lifted.
Sorry OP. The try with the gas cap open was serious. Otherwise ignore me.
Rotella! I run that shit in everything!
Go jack someone else's thread.

I'd come over and take a look at it, but I work 3rd shift...I'm sure you don't! I'm sleeping when you're home from work. Maybe sometime this weekend we can take a crack at it?
i know nothing of Ducati's but i knew nothing of Honda's when I started out and I've figured out a few issues with my bike like this with some help.
I'd def come by and give you a hand Kirk. holler at me.
