I am bringing my bike to the shop for a few items. I am thinking of having them clean the carbs, and while they are in there, put in a jet kit, since the bike seems to be running a bit rich and it will lean it out some.
Can anyone here give me a ballpark of hiw much this will cost me? I'm going to bring it to Roadside Marine...
I'd love to do this myself, but my skills are lacking and I would hate to get into trouble and end up with a bike that doesn't run or will strand me on the side of the road.

At 85 bucks a shop hour ?
Way to much.
Buy your parts and carb cleaner and ask for help offering food and beverage and I'm sure someone will help you.
I've been synching throttle bodies for the past 7 years or so on my bike but I think I remember how to do carbs .......

That number you're asking about will easily be 400 or better.
disassemble and removed rack: .5 hr
clean and install jet kit: .75 hr x 4 carbs
reinstall rack and button up: .5 hr
4 hrs x $85 per hour = $340...
I would treat this as a minimum. It could possibly swing another $100.

in the long run, learning how to maintain and fix your own bike will save you a pretty buck down the road and you can carry that knowledge to your future pigs. there's a respect in understanding the hows and whys. in my time of need, i've always whipped out the manual, tutorial online or just asked a friend. everyone starts somewhere... next time around, you won't be dependent on anyone (including heavy labor fee shops). i'm sure someone will post up fee charges but it might be more worth while to find an experienced friend to teach you how. good luck, dude.

Selltekk - If you can't do it yourself, take it top BC Motorsports in Ferrisburg. 802-877-6525. They do very good work on carbs, and will be cheaper than Roadside by far.
Too bad you live in VT. If you're willing to ride for a while. PM TLRMan. He's in the Beverly MA area. He's the real deal when it comes to fuel delivery systems.
And, he doesn't charge by the hour. All he asks is "make a donation".
+1...He's the man!

I'd offer to help but I have way too many things going on.
Maybe if I take a look and decide it is within my power... (ie fast and easy)

Id ballpark 5 bones on that one. Find a mechanic that will take it as a side job. less than 1/2 price. There are a few around here but its kind far for you.
Mark (TLRMan) worked on my carbs for close to 8 hours (sync, mixture, test, adjust, etc.......) And he looked at me like I had 8 heads when I handed him what I did, like it was WAY too much.
He's awesome with tuning and doesn't expect much in return. Just an all around great guy! You don't see that much these days.
