1993 Honda CBR 600 F2...
Bike runs great, I love it.
I put some Sunoco 93octane in it and since then it dies whenever it goes below 1500 rpm.
I can babysit the throttle, so it won't die but thats no fun.
I'm gonna take the carbs off and give them a good cleaning.
Any other suggestions?
One: buy yer gas someplace else. Also, 87 octane will work just fine.
Two: has this happened before?
Three: Go ahead and inspect the carbs, etc....if all looks good, then maybe a new tank of gas (see item one). You might even want to mix in some Techron with the fresh gas. Speaking of which....Im doing that today!! I know you'll get others here to help ya out too. Hope you get this solved!
never happened before... thats why it's so strange...
I never bought gas from this place before so maybe thats it. It said "10% ethanol" but doesn't most pump gas contain ethanol nowadays?
ethanol sucks and is probably the culprit. from what i understand the tanks were supposed to be cleaned before the new ethanol mix was brought in. so how likely does it sound for that to be done? i had issues when it was first introduced last year. now i make sure i go to bigger type stations that i know, or seem to have had new tanks recently.
also try the cleaner that yamaha makes. its called piston cleaner or somthing like that. im sure if you were looking at all the fluids at a bike shop you could figure it out. any way you use about 2oz regularly to keep it clean. or like 10oz in one tank and then you have to change your oil after that tank
also you can set your idle speed higher. mine is at about 1500-1700rpm

I suspect bad gas. Youre probably better off with a lower octane gas. With gas prices being what they are now the higher octane doesnt sell as well as the lower stuff and tends to sit around longer. It can go bad after a while which can cause the problem you are having. If your bike runs fine on the lower octane then go with that. I doubt ethanol is the problem. I havent heard of many problems with it and my bike hasnt had any problems with the blend.
