Re: any in ct have a 17mm allen wrench??

Try and think if you know anyone with a BMW, they need 17mm allen for changing differential oil. My father just picked up a set of 3 larger sized allen sockets at the local auto parts store for his differential. In the morning I'll see if I can get the specifics from him. Have you also checked Sears? They have a bunch of 17mm allen options, I don't know if your local Sears will actually stock any of them. If you want to go "back yard mechanics" on it you could try to make your own out of any 17mm bolt (some VWs use 17mm lug bolts) and some vice grips. Or you could make one out of any sized bolt with two 17mm nuts on it...

Oops, did not offer for you to borrow ours. I suppose you could, but it would be a hike for you to come get it...

Autozone sould have it. I had to get a big allen for my SV... As said above it comes in a set of 3 in the form of 3/4'' ratchet attachments. (i think)

Fastenal on the Berlin Turnpike (Newington, across from Bernie's, just down the road from Hooters).. Call first, their number is 860 665 9322. Talk to Phil, make sure he actually gets off his ass and checks the shelf. If you want to go into the store and look for yourself, it'd be below all the plumbing shit (yellow labels on the bins) against the far wall on your right when you walk in. I'm not sure if its an in-stock item, but it could probably be there by tomorrow if you don't have another option.

I've got the same AutoZone set Pete and David mentioned, it's pretty cheap and there's an AZ around every corner in CT. If by some chance you can't find it though, I'm in West Haven and you're welcome to borrow mine.

I got a set of allen sockets from Harbor Freight that has the 17mm I needed for my front axle. Should be under $20 for the set.

    www.fastenal.com

either part number 82808 or 82807 will work, one is a long arm, one is a short arm. Call Phil, have him check the shelf. Phone number again is 860 665 9322. Tell him its for a motorcycle, he might take care of the price a little bit. Wholesales for around 8 bucks.

Edit: Those part numbers are for Allen... Allen is made by Danaher, and I believe Danaher makes Craftsman as well.

They're not craftsman (the set at harbor freight) but they definitely get the job done. I got the jumbo sized set for my 848's rear axle nut and absolutely love it. All these huge metric sockets for $39, with ratchet and breaker bar + extension.

HF tools are fine for the most part, especially ones that are just a huge piece of metal.
