    Routine Weekly Maintenance?

    Hey Everyone,

I was just wondering what everyone does to their ride for weekly or even daily maintenance. Having just picked up a new bike I want to make sure I'm taking extra special care of her. Generally, I will check my tire pressure about once a week (sometimes every 3-5 days, depends on how much I ride). Also I'll grease the chain about once a month. Anything else I should be doing? Or maybe doing more often?

How many miles a week will you be riding? That will dictate your chain maintenance. If you are doing 300 a week, once a month chain lube wont cut it.

I'd like to be riding a lot more this year. I probably only did about 100 a week average last year. My riding will likely be more like 300 a week this year. How often should I lubricate the chain with that much use?

Lube the chain every few hundred miles, check tire pressures regularly, make sure bolts aren't loose, give the chain a pull to make sure it's not stretching out too much. Simple stuff.

I lube the chain when the rollers get shiny. If they are dull, there's still lube on them.

i did about 300 miles a week last season.
    • clean & lube the chain every 300 miles
    • check the tire pressure
    • clean the chrome (if you have a gixxer)

every season i make sure to drop the bike, so i learn how to replace broken parts & body panels

not on my bike. I use CEO as a cleaning rag. He's little enough to get those hard to reach spots

I used to lube the chain every friday when i got home from school. of course i had a garage then. i would pull in, leave it running and throw it on the rear stand, click it onto 1st and hit it with Bel-Ray super clean, and maybe an adjustment if ot needed it (usually every other week or 2).
its amazing how long your chain will last if youre relivious about it.

Do not, under any circumstances, forget to change your blinker fluid regularly.

I was looking for a way of justifying dropping my bike... something tells me the "I hit a patch of ice" won't cut it in the months to come

    THANKS!

Let's see a show of fingers, who else thinks that's a bad idea.
