    Re: over-heat and 6k idle?

alright good news! i think i figured out why it was idling like that. The throttle slowly migrates back after placing it in its fully rested position (where its supposed to be snapped back to) so when i start it, the throttle is slightly open and thus explains the high idle. I may need to reorder some new cables because we just cant get it to stay in place. that or the spring is bad on the carb. does this seem acurate?

could also be the routing of the cables.

I've worked on bikes that required the cables to have an exact routing path for accepable operation....any other routing (sometimes within inches) would cause binding issues.

    Re: over-heat and 6k idle?

Any one know the correct way to rout these cables? i looked in my Haynes manual and all it shows is how to properly rig them. Any ideas? i understand that it just cant bind or kink. so does that mean i can rout them as i see fit? just want to do this the right way. thanks again guys!

To check: after routing your cables, before you go out on it, let the bike idle and turn the handle bars from steering stop to steering stop.

In other words check the full range of turning before you go out. If you turn the forks all the way to one side and the engine spins up without throttle input, you have a bind-up and need to re-route the cable.

This can happen with your choke cable too.

    Re: over-heat and 6k idle?

ok so i replaced the accelerator and decelerator cables. the throttle snaps back, not great though. I checked the routing of the cables and it feels nice and smooth. I routed them so that there was no major bend. instead one open smooth bend from the carb around the frame and up to the throttle housing. we started it up and at first it idled at 2k...not bad considering where i was a month ago. but it still slowly migrates to the open position, like its reving itself up. I take the throttle and force it back up against the stop and the RPS drop down to where it should be when sitting idle. would a carb sync fix this? i know its old and i may of moved one of the adjustment screws on accident a few months ago... what do you guys think?

also while im on the carb sync topic, anyone in western MA want to earn a little extra cash and do this for me? its beyond my repetuar and i dont want to pay a shop 80-90 bucks an hour to do this for me.
