    HID kits

Want to purchase a HID kit from DDM tonight for my 02' f4i.

looking at the 35w 6000k kit.

Anyone have this? Is it possible for this to melt the headlight housing?

    That'll be awfully blue.

I've got the 55w 5000k kit from DDM. Brilliant white with just a hint of blue. Almost wish I went whiter but I love it.

55w will be whiter than 35w of the same color temp.

I thought I had read that the 55w could melt the housing?

i've got a 5000k 35w if you want a 35 vs 55 comparison. you just have to convince pete to fix his street bike.

What made you go with the 5000k?
    Any pics?

Im not looking to have the blinding lights, I would rather have it more white than blue. But at the same time I do not want to go through the hassle of putting HIDS in and still looking the same as stock.

    Re: HID kits

I also have the 35w 5000k kit from DDM. They are not blinding and actually have a pretty good cut off line I was surprised when I put them in. If you put them in they will look nothing like stock. Literally one of the best upgrades I have put on my bike.

    Re: HID kits

I got sucked into some of the anti-DDM reviews.

I just looked at their facebook page and it is FILLED with people who either didn't get their order or are trying to return it with no response. I am sure they make a quality kit for the most part, but their custoemr service if needed makes me nervous.

    Im looking at these: http://www.kryptonbulbs.com/HID-kits...its/H7-HID-kit

Anyone ever use or heard of these?

    Re: HID kits

Majority of those plug and play HID kits are hit or miss. Most of them are made in one plant in China (the main board components), then manufacturers will throw on their own ballast "housing". There are some that are decent but in the end nothing will ever compare to OEM quality. So in the end just go with whatever brand you can get your hands on, replacement bulbs and/or ballasts are a dime a dozen now a days and sometimes even cheaper than the halogen bulbs lol.

Yeah, 5000k in either 35w or 55w are going to look SUPER white compared to halogens and they'll have a hint of blue to em. 35w 6000k will probably be pretty blue.

I can't attest to DDM's customer service in the last couple of years but I had a zero hassle purchase and am very happy with the product. In retrospect, I probably would have gone with the 35k (in 5k or maybe even 4k since 35w has more blue to it) but I ONLY would have done that because the charging system on my bike is pretty weak and I could use the extra wattage for when I'm using my heated grips & vest.

35 or 55, it's up to you. 35 still gives a ton of light output.

    Re: HID kits

Taking Duey's point that most of these HID's out are all probably pretty similar, I think I am going to go with the kryptonbulbs kit.

I am sure the DDM kit is quality, but if I have shit luck and need customer service, their facebook page convinces me I want nothing to do with them.

    Re: HID kits

Here's a comparison between the dual 55w halogen high beams and my single 55w HID low-beam. Obviously the beam pattern is way different, but you can see the color & light output difference.

    Dual H7 halogen high-beams

    Versus

    Single 55w 5000k HID

    Thanks for posting those pics-

And wow that is a huge difference. Any thoughts of getting a 1 bulb kit vs 2?

    Re: HID kits

Depends on how your lights are set up. How's it configured?

My config has a single dedicated low beam bulb and two dedicated high beam bulbs. The low beam turns off when I activate the high beams, but I may re-wire that so it stays on.

I didn't see a need (nor do I have the room) to change the high beams to HID.

    Re: HID kits

Yeah so when I start the bike the low goes on (left bulb). Then there is a switch for the high beam (right bulb), which both bulbs are on at that point.

My only concern/though about switching the high beam bulb to a HID is if I want to flash, apparently there is a delay with the bulbs (?) and its not good to flash HID's...so I read.

    Re: HID kits

yeah, I'd probably just go with one. You probably won't need to use your high beams much anyway.

If you don't have projector lenses then get Piaa bulbs and call it a day. There brighter bulbs are about $90 for the pair, will give more light then hids and won't blind everyone, hids are made to work with projector lenses, without projector lenses the hid light just shoots all over the place.

I have both bulbs on my 675 converted to HID. No problems when I bought the 35w DDM kit (5000K or 4500K?). Yeah, both lights take a few seconds to warm up to temp, and you can burn out the bulb by using the flasher. not a big deal to me, I use the horn if needed. I usually ride with my high beam on during the day (for visibility), and use it as much as I can at night. It's very bright

Just bought 6 kits from DDM for an endurance race. Had them in about a week and they shipped from China. No complaints with the lights or dealing with DDM.
