I have a spare set of 900SS wheels that I just sold on eBay. I forgot that the front wheel has the axle stuck in the bearing, and I can't get it out. I've tried a few gentle taps with a BFH, but no success yet.
In the first picture, at about 7 o'clock, there is a small slot in the seal (retainer? clip?) that I think keeps the bearing in place. I've tried using snap-ring pliers, but it's not budging. Does that seal have to come out in order for the bearing & axle to come out?
I have a spare front axle, so I don't mind cutting this one up if that's what it takes. And the wheel bearing is going to need to be replaced anyway, so I can destroy that too. This is what the parts diagram shows:

ive seen some real clams come through my shop that require a 10lb sledge to get the axle out. especially vrods for some reason. if you dont put anti-seize on a v rod axle, it may never come out.
the duc is probably an aluminum axle with a steel bearing. mis matched metals can be a bitch. try heat and a RBFH. realistically, its probably not the bearing, it may be the spacer fucking you up

Thanks guys. I ended up taking it to a local NAPA to get it pressed out. It took me HOURS to find someone willing to do the job, as soon as most garages/shops heard "motorcycle wheel" they wadded up their panties and told me no-can-do. I told the NAPA guy this and he said, "That's because they're a bunch of pussies".
I tried using a 3lb framing hammer and MAPP gas. I was hitting the axle hard enough to chip metal but the fucking thing never budged. Hence the press...
I want to buy a press.
Cheap press at harbor freight
Make sure the press is wide enough to fit a motorcycle wheel in... Most of the "bargain" 12 ton presses aren't. I didn't check the HF one specifically.
