I was pulling the float bowls off a bank of carbs the other day and the phillips bowl screws were stuck. Rather than risk damaging the heads beyond repair, I immediatley stopped trying to loosen them and got out my trusty tube of Permatex valve lapping compound. A little of that on the tip of the screw driver and I was able to easily apply enough slip-free torque to get the screws out undamaged. Thought I'd share this technique I've been using for years. The lapping compound is readily available at any decent parts store.
That is a great idea ! I am going to remember that one for sure, I have plenty of valve lapping compound around.
