i got a bike over the weekend k7 gsxr 600 with akrapovic slip on, k&n filter, s.e.t delete, no cat, new ngk spark plugs. the problem is the bike back fires like crazy it gets kind of annoying. it does it between gears and whenever you rev it. i bought a power commander and it still does it.... anyone else have this problem or is it normal
It's backfiring? blowing back through the intake? That could be a real problem. If it's burning raw unburnt fuel in the the header, that's called after burn. The fresh air intake is to blame. It gets annoying real fast.
Lift the tank, on the right side of the bike there's a large rubber tube connected to the airbox that goes to the top of the head. Pop it off, stick a marble in it, put the tube back on the airbox. You'll get an occasional pop now and then but it'll be a night and day difference.
Edit...you have another alternative, really expensive PAIR blockoff plates and the need to snip a wire in the ECU harness as they will throw a code I believe. I went with the cheaper alternative and left the PAIR all in place.

backfiring through the exhaust like crazy........i did the p.a.i.r block off.. it stop when your driving and let off the gas and use the gears so slow down... i just want to make sure its not going to hurt anything and hope theres a way to calm it down a little lol

I guess that's over my head then, sorry. Mine was solved with the PAIR mod.
Paging Dr gixxer... Pigman where are you?
lol....
lots of people seem to have it solved by the pair mod but for some reason this bike back fires like crazy..
do you have the set flap delete done?
Yea, but that made little to no difference on my bike. I removed the solenoid and cables, left the butterfly in place. With no cables the spring holds the fly wide open. That definitely required snipping a wire in the harness
yea thats what this bike has.. the guy said it didnt do it till he put the spark plugs and the k&n filter
It's probably way too lean and is in need of a custom map. Get it on a dyno with an exhaust gas analyzer sniffing what it's spewing and have a custom map made for it.
You have to do the PAIR Block off plates......doesn't allow the Air to recirculate back in. Also, if you havent done it spend the 25-30$ at bike night and Dyno it, see where the map is and how its really running. Just so you know its running right and tuned well....
and its normal my 1K Pops Crazy but I like it...........![]()

wheres there a dyno for 25-30 buxs? cheapest i can find is 65 buxs??
If you stick a marble into the PAIR tube, or in my case a pipe plug trimmed down and zippy tied for a tight seal, which cost $0.00, why would you still need the plates? Is there another breather tube that will allow the PAIR to still put "fresh" air into the head?
My 1k popped and exploded, a friend behind me said he could feel the concussion go through him from the thing. Once I stuck that plug into said breather tube, it stopped immediately. Now when it lets a little indigestion go it about scares me because I'm not expecting anything more than an occasional crackle.
Unfortunately you're gonna have to pay for a full dynotune I think to get your bike straightened out. You might be able to experiment with custom maps that people have uploaded, but you're not going to get it right without a tune / custom map build. You could try the OEM filter, but that's gonna be around $25 I think.
wooohoooo.. so after everyone saying it really should back fire as much as it does. i decided to re do everything the guy touched before me.. 1 of the plugs wasnt gap'd correct and the hose from the valve cover to the pair valve wasnt even connect..
need less to say shes running good
thanks
Oh yea, the guy that had it before you was probably a dumbass that shouldn't have been working on a bike to begin with, make sure you check the hoses too
Had a feeling it had something to do with the PAIR.
