After waking the R7 up after a 2 month nap, it didn't want to run very well. It had a missfire and wouldn't take the gas at a quick blip like it used to, it just shot a flame out the pipe. No noise, just a flame![]()
I did the easy things first, drained and replaced the fuel, and checked the airbox for critters. No critters and changing the fuel made no difference.
Change the spark plugs? What a freeken project that was, not to mention getting the proper plugs!! The stock plugs were NGK R 10. I knew the dealer wouldn't have them in stock so i went there to order them... haha they weren't even listed on the NGK website. After spending an hour at the dealer, i finally settled for a close match, a NGK CR10. The only obvious difference was the size of the electrode thing.
Changing them was a project in itself. I had to remove the whole secondary fuel injector set up just to get the airbox off. Not quite sure how you would sync the throttle bodies without having the top fuel injection on?
Anyway, the stick coils came rite out and it took about 5 minutes to change the plugsThey were black and worn quite a bit, 16,600 Km on the clock (just over 10k miles)
I got it all back together and started it back up. It ran better but not how it should/used to. The missfire was gone and it didn't shoot any flames but still has a stumble when hitting the gas?
Would it hurt it if i put a fuel injection cleaner in the gas, or even a fuel conditioner? I know it needs some FI tuning but i'm having a hard time finding the proper tool to make the adjustments?

I'd try some fuel injector cleaner, fer sure. I'd also FIND the right damn plugs and I wouldn't ride it 'til I got 'em in there...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
I cannot find the same plugs as it came with. The part number in the Yamaha R7 service manual (94701-00394) comes up invalid and the full NGK number (NGK R0256R-10) comes up as invalid.
If the maker of the stock plugs and the maker of the bike can't get them, what am i supposed to do?? Using the NGK chart, the plugs i put in it have the same thread size/length and the same heat rating. The electrode is just a different shape.
I'm more concerned with tuning the fuel injection than i am with the plugs at this point. The problem is finding the proper tool and the book of codes to do the job![]()

I wouldn't be concerned with the plug Mark. If it's similar to the 2 style plugs I can run, one NGK has a single prong the other is dual. You actually pump compression up ever so slightly with the dual prong. Heat range is what is important and it seems like you've got it covered. Seems more like a fuel delivery issue (as you suggested) with the FI system. NOW....if you need someone to ride the damn thing....CALL ME.....I'll make sure 2 months of crap promptly is cleaned right outta that motor! LOL.

Can you explain this to me? You increased compression with a dual pronged plug?Originally posted by Rye

It takes up more space in cumbustion chamber! Albeit maybe a 4x3mm area but every bit counts. There....explained.

I took the beast for a ride this afternoon, filled her up with some fresh gas and ran it up and down a local drag strip a few times. It ran great after thatI almost forgot what it was like to have some power under me

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
Geeez wasn't it me that was one of the last that rode the OW???
I was thinking I broke it on you.....
I was gonna suggest to give it a run with fresh fuel....
Sounds like it just fouled the plugs on ya.....
As long as the measurements (reach) and heat range is correct, you'll be ok....Try running 9's next time..10's maybe too cool for you...Remember, this bike was designed to live at 14,750 RPM's......running the next heat range hotter, prolly won't hurt ya.
If you still have probs, just drop it off at my house, I'll work on it, and have Rye test drive it....![]()
The weekend you rode it was the last weekend it was used, but don't tell anyone i let you ride it![]()
It don't matter now, its getting put away for the winter very soon, she stays in my room for the winter months![]()

But thanks again, for an opportunity that most wouldn't have.
Now I know why you don't have a girlfriend, she won't fit in the bed with you and the bike......
Yip......that'd be Tully......
