    painting over chrome

So the moped project has some chrome bits I'd like to paint. As much as I'd like, bead blasting and powder coating isn't in my target budget so I need to go old school. Is there a good way to paint over chrome? Sanding techniques?

Just 'scuff' it good so the paint has something to bite into. Green or red Scuffy pad should do it.

Even on bigger pieces? I've decided the front fender is going to get chopped and painted, currently it's all chrome. I was ready to break out the orbital sander.

The orbital sander with 320 or something should be OK. 220 will leave scratch/swirl marks the paint might not cover.

Once you sand it and get a rough surface, make sure you clean it REALLY well. If you're really worried you could also put a good coat of metal primer on before you paint.
