Last week as soon as i got my bike started, it poured oil out of the oil filter. It was a somewhat cold morning and it took a few cranks to get it started. I'm not saying leaked oil because it was as if you took an open bottle and turned it upside down. Anyway, I replaced the filter and all was good. The same thing happened today. Anything I can do prevent this? I do not have indoor storage
I'm not an expert on this by any means, but it sounds like you may be missing a sealing o-ring. Some oil filters have a large o ring between them and the engine. Perhaps you lost your old one in the last oil change.
I can't see your bike from here... stick your head under there & look. If oil is pouring out like you say then it should be obvious where it's coming from & why it's pouring out.
Missing o-ring or two o-rings could be a cause of it. Remember to check the old filter to make sure it still has the old o-ring on it & it didn't stick to the engine case. Doubling up on o-rings can screw you over, too.

Pete's right. If it's pouring from the oil filter I can almost guarantee that you doubled the filter o-ring. The o-ring from the old filter has a tendency to stay stuck to the block. If you didn't notice it and just put the new filter on, you now have two o-rings and it's pouring out from between the two.
Always make sure the the old o-ring comes off with the old filter. It makes a big mess.

...also, Ive been told and it has always worked well for me, you should rub the new o ring with OLD oil. I could try and explain why but there are too many here who would call my bullshit. But I am serious about using old oil. just stick your finger in the old oil and rub it around the new ring. I prevents sticking....
and +1 about making sure you don't have an o ring stuck to the block!

The old O ring def. Came off. I remember inspecting it to see if the seal broke I rubbed the new one with new oil. Some even say to put a little oil in the filter too. I'll check to see if an old ring was left on there from a previous oil change before I bought it. Does it have anything to do with revving it a little to get it started?
There's no reason why it should pour oil out of the oil filter region unless it's the wrong filter, no or two seals, or it's not on tight.

Another question.. you're not CRANKING the thing down, are you? Doing so could distort the o-ring... but I can't see that causing it to POUR out like you're saying.
Maybe you got some of those Head Gnomes, the ones that like to drop valves, down in your crank case & they worked their way into your oil filter & drilled a hole in it.
Oil filters are much thinner than valve stems, i can see them getting through one in a week's time.

That's right, back to a 2 cylinder, 3 cylinder, and a 4 cylinder.
Do you have an oil cooler on you bike? If so make sure you dont have any loose connections that could be dripping down onto the filter and making it looks like its the filter.
Just an idea.
Either that or you dont know how to torque a filter. Turn it till it makes contact then another 1/4 turn to tighten it. If you have to use an oil filter clamp to get it off you are doing it wrong!!!![]()

Alright, well I just got home and my dad already replaced the filter before I could check anything. The filter was put on the right way when I put it on. But remember the first one that popped, well that was already installed prior to me buying it. I'm wondering if the threads are crapping out and the vibration of the motor is slowly turning the filter. Although, I'm leaning more towards the fact that I'm probably putting to much pressure on it by revving it on a cold start to get it started. Hopefully, that'll be the end of it.
And not to waste another thread, I was wondering if someone could read this part's diagram for me. I'm in need of the T shaped piece to the left of # 6. Does # 6 include that piece?

I know I can try calling them again tomorrow but if someone thinks that's the full assembly then I can go ahead and order it online.
You could start your bike and hold the throttle wide open and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. You will stress the engine to all hell doing that but your oil filter would be just fine. If it's a spin on filter tighten just a bit more than snug. Much less effort than opening a jar of pickles.
Try not to rev a cold engine. Your bike is FI so revving it to get it started is kinda a moot thing to do.
Oil filters only need to be hand tight.
I ususally make contact to the motor and go 1 turn past that....no issues so far.
