My family used to vacation in Sarasota when I was a kid. One year I took my BMX thinking i'd have fun. Locked it up at the bike rack forgot about it for 2 weeks cause the beach was more fun. When I went back that thing was absolutely covered in rust (frame, chain, sprockets, cranks, everything!)

Give it a good spray with WD-40, then wipe said rust off. Most will come off with a rag. Then keep that thing goobed up with a chain wax.

That worked on my chain, had lots of rust then cleaned and put a wax based lub that sticky tacky. Used on ninja 650 chain rusted immediatly because of rain

Clean with WD-40 or equievalent and wire brush on drill, I would have bike in air running in first gear, keep fingers toes and long hair more than 2 inches away from moving parts, wash and rinse with quality detergent , like liquid tide . Let dry and break out the spray paint color of your choice. I like blue, blu is a nice color for all occasions.
Between davie blvd and broward is melrose park, curvy roads there.

Rustoleum in a spray can for light rust. Use a paint brush for medium rust. Bondo and a roller for a rotted mess.
