My first time fiddling with the shock. Does this sound like the shock will be easy to remove/install:
- lift bike with rear stand
- remove rear wheel
- use jack stands to support bike from rear sets
That should work. Some people who have folding foot pegs flip them upside down for this same operation, so they will support the weight without folding. With fixed rear sets that don't fold, no need to flip em.
Depending on the bike/bodywork, sometimes you can remove the subframe and/or leave the wheel on

Also..a ladder with staps to take the weight off the back wheel. Allows you to drop the shock/swing arm down

Flipping the pegs is how I do it. Done it 5 times this way
Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul.

I've used a length of steel rod through the swing arm pivot bolt and jack stands under it. 2 person job though, 1 to lift and 1 to place stands. The 5 gallon pail works on the light machines!

Look on YouTube, there can be some "gotchas."

YEars ago I built a small lift for this. Has a trailer winch mounted on a cross bar to lift the bike, worked really well. I was able to lift my FJR completely off the ground. I've seen people do the same using 1" steel pipe and a ratchet strap. I was a little weary of the strength of that contraption so I went with 2x2x3/16 steel tubing uprights and 3" c-channel cross member.
