Which is better, fluid type or vacuum gauge setup?

Ok, I don't completely understand your setup, can someone explain the setup, I need to sink 4 carbs so I assume I would need 4 tubes with a ruler for each, but what are the other ones in your pic? Does anyone know where I can download a how-to to make what you have, and then be able to sink the carbs correctly?
I think liquid is better. It will show more smoothly. A vacuum gauge will bounce around(not too much or there is else going on) making it hard to read.
I have a Motion Pro sync tool. You have to follow the directions to a "T". It's picky about having the proper amount of fluid in it. I've done a few bikes and it has worked fine for me. A friend has a true set of mercury sticks and does not like my set-up.
The sequence for adjusting will be different on different bikes. It depends how the throttles are hooked up. I did my 76CB550 which has a center pull cable and had to work from the inside out. My Ducatis go from the front to the back. I've done a couple that had separate cables for each carb and those don't matter what order you do it in.
What ever the set up, you are not trying to measure actual vacuum, just make them all the same at the same time.

I have tried to balance a 4 cylinder using a DIY setup like that. To call it an exercise in frustration is an understatement. I would buy a 4 position setup like the Motion Pro SyncPro or pay someone else to balance. I wound up paying someone else.
i still have this: New Carbtune Pro 2-col + Toolpouch
if you're interested, make me an offer, i have no use for it.

I've got the MotionPro SyncPro - I've only used it once, but it worked exactly as advertised.
I have a mercury type for 4 cylinder bikes. If you feel like cruising to narragansett, RI you can sync them up at my house in about 1hr. All you need is some tube adapters to thread into the carb/throttle body boots to attach to tubes on the sync tool
