Tire changing video

The guy in this video uses furniture polish as a lube for changing tires. Anyone else use it?

I would think it would be easier to mount the tire with that Behold stuff than the Windex I use, but I wonder if the furniture polish ever evaporates.

I use dish soap dilluted with water. And I don't spray it on, I use a sponge to apply it so I don't have excess running inside the rim/tire.

holy shit does he make that look easy! Jamie and I tried to change a front for his RR and we ended up giving up! We didnt know to get the bead pinched into the smallest diameter of the tire, but still - that guy makes this look way too easy. good video!

Even I wouldn't hesitate to try it with the right tools and I'm afriad to do anything to my bike.

The biggest PITA is keeping the bead centered at the low spot of the rim white you lever the last of the tire on. The first bead of the tire can often be slapped right over the wheel, so you only have to put effort into one side of each tire. Oh, and be sure to have some sort of line tied to your rim protectors so they're easier to fish out if the drop inside the tire.

Cut up pieces from plastic bottles, like shampoo. You'll want some sort of lanyard on them though.

yeah that guy has probably changed about 500 tires to make it look that simple

i did last weekend on a manual machine under the supervision of an "expert" and i felt like i had ran a marathon and couldn't get the tire on the rim

learning = scratching the shit outta your rims

Man he used only one iron. And it look like a little 8 incher.

Notice though how the tire he puts on looks pretty
old and beat up. The bead maybe older and streatched out.

All I know is I spent the better part of 2 days trying and
gave up. The rear was easy enough to mount but the
front I just could not get the last 8 inches of bead on
with out fear of shredding the crap out of the bead and
the rim.

Also the rear I could not inflate... I couldn't get enough pressure in
fast enough for the bead to seat.

I'd much rather give my business to Degs and have him
use his whiz bang gizmo machine and not have to even worry
about getting a scratch !

Yeah Im going to try it on a set of old tires and scratched rims that I have to practice before killing the bead on my new set. As usual I am expecting it to not be nearly as easy as it looks, but it would be nice to be able to do.

I have a "No Mar Bar" and it works excellent. I have changed about a dozen Sets of tires with it this year for friends. Unlike "some" dealers I Do Not scratch the rims....lol

There are a couple small tricks to it but nothing hard at all. Worst part is keeping the tire centered for the last bit of tire. I use a couple of them Quick Grip Clamps, they are plastic and wont scratch the rim.

To break the Bead (Don't Laugh Now)... I have (2) - 2x4's x 10'-0" nailed together, I take the wheel and place it on a moving blanket, on the ground, in front of my shed. My shed is about 8-10" above the ground, I wedge the 2x4's under the shed and use this as leverage to break the bead. Works GREAT. Being wood it does NO Damage to the rim. And is easy with 10 feet of leverage.

You would laugh to see how easy it is. Takes about 1 hour to do both tires,(off the bike) This includes beer breaks and bench racing with ya...lol

I won't laugh; that's very similar to what I do except instead of a moving blanket on the ground, I use a carpet remnant on my garage floor. A 10 foot bead breaker seems like extreme overkill for a motorcycle tire though.

That guy knows what's up. I have a similar bead breaker. I would like to mod it with a metal half moon on the end to get more bite. I have resorted to giving Dunlop the 20 bucks at the track just cuz i don't want to eff with it.

I finally got my tires on tonight. The pledge trick does make life easier, but I'll have to do quite a few before I can make it look as easy as the guy in the video made it look.
