Tire Pressure Monitoring System( TPMS ) - Advice

Was hoping someone might have experience and give feedback on installing a TPMS on their bikes. Did a quick search on the forum, but nothing obvious came up on this topic(surprising)

Two systems I've looked at thus far are:
1.) Pressure Pro Motorcycle Tire Pressure Monitoring System @ Costco $219.99
2.) Tiregard Wireless yadidadiday Amazon $179.95

Both have these goofy large valve sensors and would need to change over to metal stems and re-balance the tires...

Question is - does anyone have experience with either of these or an alternative which they can provide feedback/recommendations on? Thanks much!!

The ones on my toyota rav-4 work well. U will probably notice a flat pretty quick anyway. Why the hell are u gonna waste the time/money when a good pressure guage at $25 bucks and you can do the check?

Ted Duncan tried it and said it's dangerous.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitoring System( TPMS ) - Advice

Hey Fjrider_RI... thanks for the feedback. Am a fairly new rider here and have not experienced what it feels like to loose pressure while on the road. I do have a good pressure guage which I use to check the tires before each ride.

The enticing aspects of the TPMS is the alarm aspects which go off if the pressure drops 12.5/25%. Maybe this feels obvious when you're riding and TPMS is a waste of money. Idea of getting a warning your tire is in trouble before I know I'm in trouble sounded like a good safety precaution to me.

    Thanks again for the feedback

yup, they do more harm than good. just stick to checking it regularly with a gauge

Yeah... I see the benefits and it certainly would be tempting, but I'm not so sure adding that much weight (depending on how much they weigh) that far away from the axle is gonna be safe. I would think it'd be pretty tough to balance it out.

I plan on sticking to the ole tried & true tire gauge method, but I'm interested in hearing more about Ted's experience for shits & giggles.

TPMS aside, Corey brought a manual tire pump to NJMP which the 6 of us used. I never realized that a simple pump action manual pump is a good addition to a pressure gauge to get your tires calibrated.

Wish I could rip the TPMS system out of my car. Never dreamed of adding it to the bike..

Is this what you're referring to? Pressure Check Valve Stems Those are different than what the OP is looking at. But I still agree w/ you (all) that a monitoring system seems unnecessary.

Actually it's very similar. The OP's system just puts a transmitter in place of the pressure indicator window so you still have the heavy caps tearing at your stems. The only gain is when they do trigger a leak you'll have a dashboard warning about it.

Thanks all for the feedback.... sufficiently convinced to stick with the manual pressure gauge and save the $$ for better things...

Re: Tire Pressure Monitoring System( TPMS ) - Advice

I've heard good reviews of the Doran 360m , I've looked into a TPS system when I first started my darkside experiment. my tire dealer recommended a TPS if I was going to run a runflat, he said that with a runflat, the sidewalls are reinforced stiff enuf that most people can't tell they have a soft tire without a sensor & alarm

the Doran monitors the pressure and has an alarm if it deviates 10%

I never got the TPS even though it would be another neat gizmo farkle, and never got the runflat, just got the cheapest winter car tire I could spoon on my 17"x4" rear wheel 8000 miles so far, the most consistent pressure of any tire I've ever had, I set it, do cold checks, always right where I set it
