anyone in the S.Shore area, or want to take a ride to Quincy that has a 1/2" --> 3/8" socket adapter or a 1/2" torque wrench that can go up to 90 ft/lbs of torque?
I want to get my rear axle to torque specs, but have a 3/8" socket torque wrench and a 36mm socket with 1/2" drive
Psssssttttt.....
Just use German Torque Settings...

Noel, the dyno event on Saturday loosed up the left side and i was 1/2 mark off on the swingarm. I went to tighten it with my breakerbar, and then the chain got way too tight. so i think i'm tightening it too much.'
oh yea, and if anyone has a spare cotter pin they'd like to toss my way, you'll be my hero
I think i have a cotter pin for you.
when and where big man?
That Gizzer of yours must have laid down some serious torque numbers, eh?Originally Posted by DBconz

Ever think about possibly NOT tightening it so much?so i think i'm tightening it too much.'Just askin'...
In all seriousness, Sears and about 80 bux is all you need.
bergs, i have a craftsman 3/8" torque wrench now, but my 36mm socket for the axle is 1/2" drive.
which is why i'm asking for someone with an adapter or a 1/2" torque wrench.
K-man, manana? maybe we can look at my F'd up cig lighter in my truck too.
No doubt. Go buy a 1/2 inch torque wrench. It's a nice thing to have in the tool box.

ok, i've used my 3/8" drive torque wrench once since i bought it on Black Friday last year. I dont think buying one is really what i'm looking for.
i went to Sears tonight to buy a 3/8 --> 1/2 adapter, but left my wallet at home. so i went home and thought maybe someone could help me out
just remember the 'adapter' messes up the torque and you're not getting a true reading.
Goodntight with a cotter pin should be more than OK.
You know Jim, you could have easily panhandled your way to a new torque wrench.
One last thing is, the cigarette lighter in your truck is either a disconnected wire (like the ground wire) or............well, that's all I got.
I also have the tourque wrench and socket you need!
call me when you get out of work and let me know what works for you.....
Mine use to do the same thing so I would loosen the axle again, loosen the chain a tad bit more, retighten axle and check it again. As you loosen the axle and the adjuster bolts, I use a rubber mallet or a breaker bar and hit the rear tire to make sure the axle is sliding forward into place.

take a 12mm wrench and put it in the sprocket teeth. Turn the wheel until it wedges the wrench between the sprocket and chain and won't turn any more. Then tighten the axle nut. That's the easiest way I know to make sure you're wheel is pulled all the way against the chain adjusters.
I thought this thread was gonna be asking about how you can get rid of Denno.

Jim,
I'm going out to the garage to grab my bike tomorrow. You need me to bring a torque wrench back in for you? Or you could meet me there and use it there.
I was hoping to make it to a stealership before they close to get the bike inspected.
Then we are riding tomorrow evening?
