i'm confused....if your chain is so tight it moves the axle when the swingarm articulates that is the problem right there...i thought the axle was moving when you tighten the axle nut...like walking away from teh chain tensioners

well i adjust the chain slack to spec, then tighten the axle nut. when i tighten it with m breaker bar, my chain slack is gone.

have you tried keeping it looser then having it tighten to spec when you tighten it?

how about changing the sequence in which you tighten the bolts?

also, imo when in doubt more slack is better then too tight.

yes, chain was still too tight

i've got the axle nut finger tight with the cotter pin in it now. if i got that nut any tighter, i would lose slack on my chain.

seriously though...something doesn't sound right...the only time i've seen an axle "walk" is when there is problem with the spacers....maybe print out the mirco-fiche and compare?

all kidding aside - it sounds like you chain tensioners are not aligned properly - get the rear axel in and push the tire from the rear and check to see if your axel nuts are at the same adjustment point on both sides and that the slack on the chain looks good - i know you're huge but i doubt your bending your swingarm

denno, with the bike on or off the stand? i've heard mixed reviews about rear wheel alignment on the stand

doesnt matter....if you can't tell with the marks...pick a point on each side and measure it with a ruler

i have both sides exactly on the 4th mark right now. the right side didnt need to get moved, but the left side was about a 1/2 mark off. when i adjusted the left side the slack was perfect. then i tightened the axle bolt with my breaker bar, and noticed the chain slack was gone, but was still on the 4th swingarm mark

anyways, i have the axle finger tight right now with the cotter pin in there.
the chain slack is where i want it, and i was planning on riding all day today. is that axle nut considered dangerous since i dont have it torqued to spec?

umm not torqued to spec...no not dangerous. Finger tight even with a cotter pin YES dangerous.

It doesnt sound like the problem if how much torque you are putting on..It sounds like reguardless of how tight you put the bolt it will tighten your chain.

If you put a good amount of slack on the chain and then tighten it, will it go to the correct slack?

get the manual, that should have been your first "upgrade"...you can download it on the internet.....look to make sure you have all the spacers in the right place, not missing any washers etc...
