Showa forks off a Ducati
I need to take the bottoms (where the calipers bolt to) off the bottom tube. I know a special tool is used to do this... Anyone have this tool? I can cometo you and am willing to pay for the job/time.
I'm having the bottom powdercoated.
I'm located in Ipswich.
Thanks
Charlie

Not sure that there is a special too but I do know they are loctited in so a little heat first would be a good idea.

yup...he is one of the good guys!
I realize Peter is the go to guy. I just need the bottom unscrewed. I've seen it done at BCM. The bottom is held in a vise while the tool is inserted on top of the tube(looks like a t handle) and is unscrewed. My local shop is unable to do it .... So looks like I'll drive it up to BCM for an hour of shop time

A little heat and a vise is all you need.
Jam a wooden broom handle into the tube. Keep pressure on it to help keep the inside from spinning.
Couple hits from a metal hammer to the hex bolt on the bottom before trying to unscrew.
Your welcome.

Some of the older ones also have a small set screw in the fork lower facing the rotor that you need to remove also. Stick fork lowers in a vise and use a clip on handlebar near the base to turn the tube. Don't forget the heat as you will need to heat up the epoxy in there.
Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try over next weekend.

I have a hardwood dowel with the end turned down to a taper specifically for unscrewing damper rod forks... dunno' about cartridge forks, never did them.
If the retaining screw in the bottom is really sealed with Loctite dribble a bit of acetone into the well for the allen head and leave it for a few minutes... usually works its way in and releases things nicely.
