A quick, late race report before this weekend erases all memories of it.
Saturday: GTL
Gridded in the first row, didn't get a great start, lost a few places into T1, settled into 4th I think, and felt relaxed. My second lap was within a tenth of my PB, and I established a good rhythm but didn't get to do muuch passing except for lappers. Did I mention I wanted to flush out some street gas and decided to race with less than my usual full tank? Last lap, bike bogs out of T2 and I coast into T3 with my arm up, out of gas.
I get away with a 9th out of 15 because I had lapped a few. I did feel a bit better when I found I crushed my PB from last year by over a second with a new PB of 1:22.7.
Saturday: LWGP
Gridded near the back and outside as I hadn't run this race in a while, I found I couldn't see the boards or the flagger. Watch Rada's video of the start to see my impression of a cockattiel on crack as I bob around trying the get a glimpse of the flagger before everyone blows by me. Don't remember much else, finished an unimpressive 10th out of 16, more than 2 seconds off my PB.
Sunday: LWSS
I got a great start from the first row, but was on the inside and got squeezed hard into T1 by someone with poor peripheral vision. I backed off to avoid contact at the apex, lost a few places, and never regained my rhythm. I did have some excitement in T3 when I missed my turn in and tried to muscle it back on line. The bars flopped over at the transition, I started to let go and prepare for the crash...but somehow didn't.
I remember being very happy to be upright for the rest of the race. Finished 6th out of 9, a second and a half off my PB in the GTL.
