This is what I consider to be the feature race of the season. This event is what seperates the men from the boys, and the awkwardly feminine from the possibly Canadian. The air was cold, the rain was fierce, and I grew eager to win it this year.
I had planned on entering the 600cc class this year with my race bike. However a quick storm arrived during the end of the practice sessions, and I wouldn't have been able to switch over to my rain tires and get the safety wiring done in time. In a last minute decision, my pit crew grabbed an available pit bike from garage 10 & began to prep it. As I gear up with my smurf colored shirt, my crew checked over the bike & discussed some last minute strategies that we had planned all season.
As 3rd and final call was announced, we gave the bike one quick chain adjustment and ripped off the tire warmers. I gave it one good kick start and was off to the staging area. Here is where I plan on intimidating my opponents with fierce stare downs. I double checked my grid position: 38-Q
Lap 1
the flag is dropped and my bike launches perfectly (not like sdog30). I instantly gained at least 20 spots at the start. By the time I kicked into 2nd gear, I could already smell the fear of Oreo knowing I'm on his tail. I take T1 sideways with my rear screaming from speed and the wet pavement, but I show no fear. I see Brendan87 in my sights and know I can get him now that he's not wearing any pink this time. He's riding the Boosh scooter with a passenger. After watching the practice films, I know he's weak in T3. I stuffed him in the breaking zone and Brendan was left behind smelling my sweet 2-stroke exhaust. Now T5 is where the action is happening. I set up my pre-turn and easily picked up another few spots on the inside. Up by the treehouse i'm maxing out 3rd gear and now I'm forced to use cornerspeed to catch more victims. Fast forward to T10 and Brendan87 is catching on me quickly. He passes me on the start/finish line which now makes me 100% sure he's using a cheater motor & quite possibly a quick shifter.
Lap 2
As I'm inching towards team cheater.....I mean Brendan87, I spot some new competitors. Now the track conditions are changing from the lack of rain & I have to adjust my moves towards a dry track. I failed to see my postion from my crew's pit board during the straight, so I'm forced to pin it. I'm starting to catch up to the scooter when I spot the Woodcraft scooter within my reach. Knowing the great victories this machine has pulled from both pit bike races this season, I know I might have to hit a kill switch or take the T4 --> T7 shortcut. I'm staying fully tucked and maxing out all 3 gears on my bike, but I'm just out powered. Had I given one more lap, I would have had a greater victory.
Overall: finished 34 out of 216.
Best Lap: 2:01.687
I'd like to thank all my sponsors & garage mates that made this possible.
