That's a 1st gen unfortunately. I really don't want carbs.

I had an EX-500 that never ran at the start of the season, no matter what I did. Fuel stabilizer, closed the petcock, ran it until it died, then drained the float bowls. It didn't matter. I probably should have left fuel in it and just started it once a week. Some people have good luck with carbs, but I never have.

I'd go 2nd gen if I were you too.

Love my decently setup 2nd gen for track duty. It's the one you know from Deal's.

I have a decent condition 2004 SV for sale:
2004 SV650S

Not sure I'd call it a project, as it should be in turn-key condition for a track day (just add coolant/water). The only things it use for more than an occasional novice track day would be suspension and track plastics. Already has frame sliders and Woodcraft rearsets. I've had it posted on NESR for a bit (not desperate enough to go the Craigslist route, lol) and was planning on using it this year (already ordered the oil for it) and it's cheaper than the cheapest one currently on Craigslist by a few hundred. Just needs some coolant added, as I drained the distilled water before putting it in the garage for the winter. PM me if interested.
