Getting back to a streetbike....
The Hyper 1100S is too much for the road/s commute I'm shooting for. Turning my head to somehting more useable/ fun on lower speed roads.
KTM Duke 690. ( non adventure)
(Ideally a hyper 796 or 820 but tough to find and price I'm willing to pay (less than 6K))
I was thinking of the Duke 390 but it might be not enough to keep me happy.
May take a look at one in Stow, MA
Appreciate any tips. hints directions... or NESR suggestions of other bikes.. ( more upright seating postiion, flickable, suburban roads 45 mph little to no highway. less than 6k)
hmmmm......
Sounds familiar, OH yeah, I have both of those bikes
And while doable on the hyper, I hear ya on wanting something lighter with maybe a bit longer travel for the small back roads and you can notice the 80ish pound difference.
Never ridden a 390, but unless you weight 115Lbs I'd wager it would be a bit underwhelming. I've only had my (2013)690 duke for a year 1/2, no issues / problems so far, need to get it in for a valve check/adj soon.
Considerable better mileage than the Hyper as well, I average around 50-55 MPG / 150-160 per tank.
Seen some decent deals recently, unique bike and a relatively decent deal, considering what a 690SM goes for when you can find them. Good luck with your search!![]()
I remember seeing 796 and 821 Hypermotard under $6k recently, but they weren’t exactly low miles and perfect condition… I think you could probably find one if you’re willing to wait for the right one. I definitely saw some in the $5k-$6k range on facebook within the last few months.
2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE
2022 Husqvarna fe501s
saw one as well in NH.... But I'm a little picky. I like the red. I"ve doen soft searched say every 2 weeks. But i'd say 90% of hypers are 1000cc.
Not worried about higher mileage Hypers as well.

I saw a 690 SM for 5800 on FB today...... but I'm digging the duke.
and the 390 while doable.... might get teeny boring. after a bit.
hmmmm......
I'd get 50 mpg on my Hyper 796, and with the CA Cycleworks tank of 6.4 gallons, you get used to the 300 mile range. That's the bike I sold two years ago. The current owner has it listed at $8500 on FB, doesn't really want to sell it he told me earlier this summer. Obviously. But maybe he's open to offers now? He has kept it serviced by Eric at Clubhouse Motorsports in Moultonborough AFAIK.
And don't believe everything you think.
one thing I will note on the duke, the seat design doesn't allow for much movement, i.e. can't really slide back/forth much due to the separate passenger seat design.
So make sure you like the seating position / fit.
RPM RJ Motorsports in Nashua has KTM 690 Duke

If I was shopping for a 690 Duke, I'd also be looking at MT-07/XSR700, Z650, CB650R, Triumph Trident
Or you can join the group of FZ6 owners (2004-2009) here on the forum. I'm sure we'll be happy to send our old for-sale ads![]()
Hmmm don't know much about this.
Aprilia
Dorsosuro 750 ?
Any insights ?

The 2016+ Dukes got a new engine with more hp and less vibrations, and a fancy TFT dash. (I want one too)
For a while KTM offered a “track pack” ECU flash for the 2016+ that unlocked ride mode and traction control options. KTM discontinued offering this in 2018, it is no longer able to be installed, so if that’s important to you, you need to find one with it already installed.
thought of the fz6.. just not "sexy enough" for me. the Hyper is one i really want just for looks.. Love it.
The Duke has attitude and street tuned engine that lays it down quite nicely
The MT sat on one last year and seemed a bit heavy for what i'm looking for i"m sure it'll do fine once moving but Id like to stay lighter/ flickable like my dirtbikes which is why the Hyper seems so ideal.
Founda couple Hypers
I emailed this guy on FB he told me it sold. Replied to him on CL now he says its available ( think he didnt like my profile pic and my last name Litte hispanic looking and sounding, only thing i can figure)

I don’t think you’ll find that the Hyper 821 is easier at lower speeds than the 1100. My friend just sold his Hyper 939 and said the throttle was like a light switch; and the 939 version was supposedly improved over its 821 predecessor.
I’ve had the hots for a Duke 690 ever since I sat on one at a dealer 3-4 years ago. It’s super light and the ergos were perfect.
This one has been for sale For a while, has potential to be a cheap project

Sigh .. another project. I want to buy .. I have 1 project right now
And I want to ride now
The one up in barre called me back. .other than it being covered in all things CF... It seems like it has had a good life.

At the >$5k price point, I’d strongly be considering only the 2016+ models
Those Dukes look nice, and fun ... hmmm ...
On my Hyper 796, I had to re-gear it significantly, otherwise, I'd use only 1-2-3 on the kind of riding you describe. I think they geared 'em tall for noise tests maybe. Also, I installed a Soupy's lowering link and dropped the back ca. 3/4" and left the front stock, made all the difference, handled like a street bike then.
Two of the Hypers you found had around 7K miles, I'd wager they've never had valve & belt service. Plan your $$$ accordingly ... .

Recommend reading through the specs on 690 Dukes.
The ‘08-‘11 are the desirable years based on how they were equipped. I’d also say that the bikes mentioned above are not comps to the Duke other than ergonomics.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
There are more dedicated street biased twins like OneCheekRider and Paul mentioned that I’d steer you towards, which are better
You sound like me and your mind is made up on the model you want, so have fun
And screw sexy, I just put a tall windshield and shopping for a top case.
“Officer, I’m over 40 and my tags and insurance are up to date.”
question for others: is this the same spirited, wheelie friendly, LC4 mill that was in my former 690E?

Update. Found a 690 in Stow ma. Upgraded cam for a 2013 , remap and full exhaust . Any insight if the updated cam is prone to failure? Would like to keep that low end grunt ....
