Sucks. So close too :/
The media will be all over this. Another reckless motorcycle rider near a school. Tragic all the same.

And yet another left turner ...
I would be.
There are 500,000+ registered motorcycles between NH and MA and maybe 200 consistently active members on the forum.
As far as the left turning car comment, the article states the kid was passing cars in no passing zones. I'll go out on a limb and say the driver of the car wasn't expecting a motorcycle in their lane.
Ok the young man was passing cars in a no passing zone directly in front of a school. The driver turning left had NO reason to be looking for a bike coming their way. Clearly the road wasn't clear to pass. The rider was splitting lanes against oncoming traffic ( my opinion based on the picture and Google maps image). I do not put any blame on the motorist here. The rider rolled the dice and it cost him. Had he stayed in his lane we wouldn't be talking about him in the past tense. I am not from the area but looking at Google maps it's easy to see that this was not the place to pass any cars.

We gonna monday morning quarterback this all day?
Articles like this usually do a shitty job of explaining what actually happened and typically gear it towards the "it was the motorcyclists fault he got killed". It doesn't specify whether or not he was in the act of passing in a no passing zone at the time of the crash or in the school zone. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't... Maybe he was riding like a complete asshole 5 seconds before but slowed down, maybe he didn't.
And this is why I don't like these kinds of threads.
A life was lost. I wasn't there. Therefore I'm not gonna judge.

I wasn't going to do the Monday morning quarterback thing until someone blamed the motorist. You're right, we weren't there, we don't know for sure what happened. And the big issue here is that a life was cut short.

I apologize for my comments regarding the accident. I dont usually feed into news stories like that and I'm not sure why I decided to post anything in the first place
Man, I used to work in the building directly next to that school, it used to be Ragsdale chevy. I hated pulling out of there everyday. There was always lots of traffic and many speeders regularly. On average over the 3-4 years I worked there there was an accident about once a month along that half mile or so and a lot of them were pretty serious, life flight used prouty high school field on more then one occasion.
My cousin's brother in law. My Mom just called me. My cousin's wife is taking it hard. Her younger brother.
I only met him at their wedding and at a recent cookout. Thanks for your concern though.

Well I'm no accident reconstruction engineer but the story and the scene don't really jibe.
There is a single skid mark right up to the impact point, sure looks to be front wheel lockup. It is about 15 feet long. It is most definitely in the middle of the eastbound travel lane and not in the middle of the road where it would be if he was passing.
From what I see, it was a classic left turn in front of bike crash. What he may have been doing in the short time before the crash is debatable. The MA State Police accident reconstruction team should be non-biased....but I sincerely doubt it. There is a legal passing zone just 2/10's of a mile west of where this happened, yet reports are he was passing in a no passing zone. I tend to question that. Those reports of him passing play into possibly tainting the outcome of the investigation.
If the driver of the car that turned left on front of him is cited or not remains to be determined. If she is or isn't has no effect on that he is dead. And that really sucks.
May he rest in peace.

RIP
I was thinking about this yesterday while out with my 16 y/o son who has his learner's permit. He was driving and I always remind him at intersection and lights and other danger spots that we have the right of way AND he should be alert to the possibility that someone else will do something wrong and HE has to be ready to avoid them.
I'm not Monday morning quarterbacking this, but the reality I'm teaching him is x100 on a motorcycle.
Scary and sad.
This article is really skewed from the start. And I agree with Sprint, looks like this occurred in the middle of the MC's travel lane, why was the car there?? Excessive speed is the only reason I could see for MC at fault, but too many unanswered questions.
Thoughts out to the rider's family. Sad....
