Walmart is the only place turning a profit in this economy, buisness is continuing to grow there in the face of the downturn. Thing about consumers is, they always consume...they just consume less, and at the lowest price around.

I wouldn't mind seeing HD and Lowes duke it out, they both piss me off.

VW??? I thought they were one of the few car companies doing fine. I also heard Honda was one of the few expected to be in the balck this year.

Honda is readjusting production to suit needs, but even their on-lot inventory is growing...time will tell.

You realize they're the same parent company right? Those two and Home Expo (which i think I heard is closing all their stores)

That's why you don't see a HD in the same area as a Lowes usually.

Lowe's and Home Depot are (according to this anyway) not the same parent company, which I didn't think was the case, as I have experienced many places that have both Lowe's and HD, and many times within a mile or two. Concord, NH and Claremont, NH (Lowe's is going in next door to HD) are the two that immediately spring to mind.

There is a Lowe's less than a minute from a HD in Danvers.

Also on topic FUCK BoA. They are a garbage company who likes to pound it in their customers asses. I use credit unions. Have since day 1 in the USAF and haven't stopped. Except a 2 year stint that my ex wanted to use BoA and I wanted to puke the whole time.

True, they do create a lot of jobs, lots of good $7-$8 per hour jobs. For every 7-8 buck an hour job they create, 2 other people making just enough to live a normal life loses his/her job because wallmart can import from china the same product (though MUCH less quality) for half the cost.
There's only one way to restore the american economy, buy what's made in the USA. The governement can pump all the money they want into whatever they "think" will stimulate this mess we are in. People need to get a clue and realize that "made in the USA" is the only way we are going to create jobs and rebuild our economy.
Sadly it's going to take a Depression for Americans to realize this, and Americans will realize this sooner than later

I agree...its not the right way, but it's how things are. Only way to change it is create offspring and teach them well...but the bigger issue is that stupid people seem to have more offspring than smart people, and this is why the world will implode soon enough.

The irony is I posted this about Walmart, and this morning they laid off 800 people @ corporate...but much like any organization, there is no better time to lose weight than when the pickings are slim.

Do you travel much? I am in PA right now and there is a Lowes and Home depot about 3 blocks from each other. Tilton NH has them about half a mile from each other. Unfortunately I have to use them a lot since they drive the smaller companies out of business and they are almost always near each other. They are each others compitetion and its a good thing or they could monopolize an area.

There's a HD in Assembly Square in Somerville, then another over the river in the Gateway Mall in Everett. You literally have line of sight between the two HDs.

I used to travel to work passed an intersection. They were building thousands of homes around here and in 3 years the commuting traffic had more than doubled to a constant stream of cars morning and night.

SO I thought ....Wow a great place for a gas/convenience store.

I proposed this to 3 banks basically they all said NO but would have lent money for the 4th station on a corner. They Could not know if a new location was successful but would believe you would get 1/4 of the business as the 4th station.

This is the logic that gets Lowes and HD together and Target and Walmart etc.

This is also a reason its almost impossible to get financing for a new production. You can NOT guarantee to computers or worse beancounters that you will be successful.
