So I just spent 2 hours reading online forums about the legality of the census. I am trying to fill it out but it is very intrusive and seems illegal.
I am patriotic but from what I have seen and read this is not constitutional. Anyone have more or different facts for me to know?
Most agree that you only have to tell them how many people live in your house.
The census is legal and Constitutional to the extent that it may ask you the number and gender of the people in your house, for the purposes of apportioning Congress. (Although the gender question is now obsolete, since women can vote these days.)
All of the other questions are un-Constitutional and illegitimate. I fill out the two required questions and decline to answer the rest. Be aware that current law (also un-Constitutional) says that they can fine you $100 if you don't fill everything out.

census is constitutionally mandated decentennially
last one was in 2010, next one is 2020
if yer fillin one out now, its not a constitutionally mandated census

Cc numbers and passwords? Really?
No but household and individual incomes. employers. where you work, how you get there, what time you go to work, how many hours per week you work. This seems insane. It does also seem strange to get it now if it happened in 2010.
From what I saw when reading about it quickly last night, is that every 10 years there is a census sent to every household in the country. Every year, there is a smaller one sent to 2% of the households.
They ask those questions to see what the average income is in a given area, how many people use public transportation, how many people travel during rush hour, how many people work full time etc.
Technically they can charge you if you don't fill it out, but that rarely if ever happens. I guess if you don't feel comfortable, take you chances and don't fill it out.
Ah. So the census you got, is not Constitutional at all. I'd simply not do it at all, then.
