I'll be up in Northfield again this weekend, and was planning on joining you guys, but I wrecked pretty hard on the mountain bike last night, injuring my shoulder. I should be back in the saddle pretty soon, but I think I'm going to have to take it easy for a few days/maybe a week. I was actually thinking about doing a century+ on Sunday, but that will have to wait until the next trip, I think.
I finally got a new road bike and am loving it. did 30 around southern RI on monday, this rain is putting a damper on things at the moment though. I forgot how much fun the road bike can be, so fast!
Don't Fake the funk on a nasty dunk.

Heal up quick Ezra!
Paul, I only managed just over 16mph. It seemed that from Concord north was all uphill. Then there was a climb at the 65 mile mark that completely wiped me out. I was ok before that and I just never recovered. I seriously can't fathom how I willed my legs to keep spinning. I need a different saddle, also. It was agony, but I'm psyched I was able to complete it. 110.4 miles.
GU gels/chomps were soooo satisfying, and would give me a burst of energy I never thought a small snack would do!
I'm definetly doing it again.
Also, after mile 70 or so, I couldn't get my heart rate above 150bpm. I thought that was weird. I really tried to push myself in the last 5 miles, too. What causes that?
Dunno, but bonking does some weird stuff to your system. 16 is a great pace for a century IMO. I don't think I came close to that on mine, but it also had 10,000 feet of climbing, mostly in 3 BRUTAL ascents. I was literally crying on the third one. It had a 21 degree section!
10,000 feet!? That's nuts. I think my ride was just around 4,000 and I was wiped.
Ah, so that's a symptom of the dreaded bonk. Makes sense, since I was getting unnecessarily angry at climbs towards the end of the ride.
So, like an idiot I decided to bring my bike up to NH with me, you know, "just in case"... Anyway, now I'm thinking of doing a long ride on Sunday. Maybe Northfield to Bristol, around Newfound and back. Was also thinking of a ride through Ashland... I'm not sure how the shoulder will respond, it hurts, but I don't think road riding will hurt it much more. If anyone wants to join me, let me know.
A bit too far north for me today. I'll be out and about around Auburn and lake massabesic though, if anyone is near, I'd love someone to ride with!
Jeezus, I just happen to live in the epicenter of some of the best road rides in NE. We did the "Cosby loop" tonight. A sweet 40 miler from the river valley, up and around the Cosby estate. The roads around his place are so much fun with epic views everywhere. It was hard not to stop and smell the roses a bit, but we still managed 16.5 mph even with the stopping and starting. 3 good climbs and an excellent descent. Hurtling into hairpins at 40+ on skinny rubber gets the heart pumping for sure.
Since moving to SLC, i've taken up biking again - first as rehab for my mcl, and now for pleasure. I have done a few road rides, and just pulled the trigger on a mountain bike. Lots of sweet single track up in Park City. Any of you guys getting on the MTB? Its really exciting getting back into a sport i was once totally dedicated to. At the same time it is crazy how the prices of bikes have skyrocket exponentially!
Originally I was going to get a hard tail 29er, i demoed a scapel 29er and felt that that didn't have enough squish for my liking.. so i went with a jekyll. I used to race DH, and am very used to extremely slack angles and lots of squish. The jekyll is the perfect compromise. The bike came in the mail today and is lined up to be built this week. I have some parts coming (dropper post, clipless, grips, ect) and will be slapping those on before the first big ride. Looking forward to this summer's riding - PC, Moab, ect! Its alllll gooooood!
deeznuts
I was thinking about the creams, but I tried a bunch of new saddles instead. I settled on a nice one.

I haven't had a bit of soreness or numbness at all. WORLD of difference!
Body glide from time to time, but mostly for running.
I rode the ride of the season. I haven't been this fit since I was racing xc mtbs...24 miles, 20.5 mph average.
I felt strong, like I haven't in eons.
Switching to racing in the dirt has forced me to stay in shape. Braap!!!
