pssst. you're not allowed to post 'that name' on this site.

Joe, buddy. NOW you're overstepping the boundries. This is possibly the WORST time to use 'that' name...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Oh, I'm SURE we'll see reminders of it. ESPECIALLY if Fox is broadcasting it (haven't checked to see if they got the Series too)...Originally posted by The KING
Jay, tell me they're not gonna be plastering that all over the place during the series, tell me they're not....
It's just a lame-ass reminder, and it drives me nuts that they'd keep reverting to that. It was EIGHTEEN years ago ferchrissakes and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with what's going on here NOW. It was an absolute miracle that the Sox made it so far back then. This time around, they belong where they are...
I REALLY hate the media, even though it's run by my people...![]()

It's a shame that he'll forever be remembered for that too. He actually had a pretty damned good career up 'til then and he was a very important reason the Sox made it to the Series that year...Originally posted by The KING
It's ALL going to come back to haunt him again isn't it?
How many times are they gonna replay that infamous moment? He should just take a vaction to Kilamanjaro until it's all over...
Most important to remember is that it wasn't BUCKNER'S fault they lost game 6 and eventually the series. Calvin Sheraldi & Bob Stanley (pitchers) and Rich Gedman (catcher) had as much - if not MORE - to do with them blowing game 6. The Sox were up by a coupla runs in the bottom of the 9th, merely THREE outs away from winning the show. A coupla passed balls, coupla wild pitches and it was tied. It's entirely unfair he still gets blamed for this...
-While he wasn't a CAREER .300 hitter (milestone for hitters), he had a handful of SEASONS were he hit over .300 and even won a batting title...
-'Back then', you didn't have .300 hitters hitting HR's like you do today. He was rare at the time, being a 'hit for average' batter that had some pop in his bat...
-He's one of only a handful of players that played in FOUR different decades. That right there tells ya something about what type of guy he was...
-For a good deal of his career, he was also a very real base stealing threat. If I remember, he had a few 30 steal seasons...
-He was the consumate 'team player'. He was a natural outfielder, but spent a lot of time at first base. He moved to other positions as needed by teams. He was a great 'utility player' that always put his team first...
-He was also a great RBI guy. Can't remember the numbers, but he had some great years knockin' 'em in...
It's a shame such a great guy takes so much heat for that. It really is. As I've said, Sheraldi & Stanley had just as much to do with that, if not more. How easily we forget that if Buckner had scooped that up and made the out, it 'only' woulda taken us to extra innings as at that point the pitching had allowed them to tie it up. THEY had already blown the game...
