So how much are you looking to spend?

I love My Xterra, you might get a left over. I got a top of the line Offroad with all the options I wanted for $27k out the door (after Taxes and stuff)

You can get a base model much cheaper.

Murano. Close to 250HP/250Ft Lb, average MPG first 10K miles - 24MPG, supposedly a great tow vehicle too. I won't know fer sure 'til this summer about that though...

Wunna the things I liked so much about the Murano is that it's not your typical 'in the box' SUV. I don't think I'd even consider it an SUV. The fact that it's car-like suits me fine. My last commuter was a Fag Wagon (Soob Outback wagon), I'll NEVER do the wagon thing again. I've put 10K miles on mine since August and haven't had one problem whatsoever. Can't say that for the Soob or any other SUV's I've owned or used for work...

Pickup or van ... stay away from the SUV's ... people hate them for a reason.

Toyota Taco, or Tundra base package with no options is 16k brand new.
Good for 180K + miles if you take good care of them.

I may be selling my base '02 tundra and getting a Ridgeline or another tundra.

No, I didn't take offense to it. Not at all. Funny though: I stopped at the Nissan dealership to look at the Xterra and ended up with the Murano. Wunna the best vehicles I've ever owned so far...

I really wanted to get one of these but the wifey vetoed it as being too commercial looking.

They're really cool though, as they get great gas mileage, have a huge weight limit and all your stuff stays outta the rain. I think they even have tie down rails inside. Only problem is that they're so tall they can't fit in a typical parking garage, and they're also finicky about US diesel fuel. US diesel is dirtier than Euro diesel and tends to gum up the engine, leaving you stalled on the side of the road (although I think you can fix it with wrenches and a can of carb cleaner).

Yes, I know someone who didn't get a fleet of them cause they are too tall for a lot of parking garages in the city

However they do fit under the tunnel at NHIS and that's all that really counts here in NH . Isopropyl gas antifreeze is also recommended anti gel for diesel

Base model sprinter is $26k iirc

Some of us have them for hauling people and stuff...

Can't haul this and carry 7 people with a sedan or a truck.

That said, my "normal" car is a Toyota Matrix with a Thule rack, so I get your point.

24 MPG with my V6 Murano, and that's up near 250HP. But I think I said that already...

He wasn't asking about trucks. He was asking about SUV's, the Exploder in particular...

I have an 03 Merc Montaineer love it, AWD with ever otion you can fit in it, i went with the 4.0 V6 figuring on saving gas miles, that engine sucks and not just gas, it just plain sucks, go with a V8 you will get the same miles.. if you drive half sane..

Tell me about it. All the years I lived in Upstate NY, I never owned a 4wd vehicle, mostly fullsize GM trucks, and never got stuck. A little weight and some snowtires and you're good to go. It got to the point I couldn't find one so ended up with an 03 4WD silverado. Then moved to Fl and got back in to a 2WD.
I sometimes forget I don't live in the Northeast anymore .
    Cheers, Lee S.

I'll put my last two AWD vehicles against ANY RWD you've owned in slippery conditions. I'd bet my current 4WD will run circles around your current RWD too!
