I think you'll be fine with a Ford Exploder. I mean Explorer.

Nah, I did read it. It was intended irony at the fact that the thread was old as well as the truck being considered being a trashheap

    Walk away from that lump.
Sis-in-law had one for 6 months and that was enough for her.

    Aaaaaaaand?

What motor did you end up with? I love the SOHC 4L in my Stranger....nice stout mill, IMO.

Keep an eye on the ball joints....it's a Ford thing...seriously.

They're really cool though, as they get great gas mileage, have a huge weight limit and all your stuff stays outta the rain. I think they even have tie down rails inside. Only problem is that they're so tall they can't fit in a typical parking garage, and they're also finicky about US diesel fuel. US diesel is dirtier than Euro diesel and tends to gum up the engine, leaving you stalled on the side of the road (although I think you can fix it with wrenches and a can of carb cleaner).
We have one at work. Yes it died on the side of the road once @ 12,000 miles. Its the fuel filters that clog up. They need to be replaced at least every 10k miles. The thing is awesome though. We have the GIANT one, long wheelbase, high roof. It pulls 20mpg all day. We also have a 20amp 120v inverter in it. A few guys at work have brought it to games and hook it up with a TV and fridge.

We had a dodge van previous. Build quality is a million times better. Ride is harsher but it handles better. Acceleration fully loaded isn't the greatest but not terrible either. The steering wheel angle is really odd and non-adjustable, think bus driver. When you take corners you have to lean forward to turn the wheel. It does drive really nicely though. It handles like your riving something half the size. Turning radius is super tight. Ill be driving it and forget Im in a giant vehicle. I look back and it kind of shocks you how big it is.
