    Sand blasters

Looking for a small media blaster, probably pressurized unit. What do you guys have that you'd recommend? This is only for touch up work on things around the house (boat trailer, lawn stuff, etc.)
I know about filtering the media, and my air compressor isn't big enough, etc etc. Just what do you use that is reliable when all the planets are aligned properly that doesn't jam easily and doesn't need new nozzles every 10 minutes.
    thanks

A piece of hose and a blow gun makes a poor man's media blaster. You just split the hose and put one end in your media and the blow gun in the split.

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

    Re: Sand blasters

I have been using a really cheap HF sand blaster for years and it works adequately, but will overwhelm my 60 gallon, 3 HP compressor pretty easily. I think I paid 10 bucks for it. I think I'd shop there for a pressurized unit too. An occasional-use/homeowner sand blaster is one of those tools that is too simple to require much engineering (and cost), IMO.

Stoinks, do you have the siphon unit or the pressurized? I have a 2HP horizontal compressor and a secondary tank attached for more capacity installed for garage use. I plan to connect my oilless vertical, 40gal, into the mix as a secondary. I'll base load the 2 HP and let the oilless trim as needed. I don't have a lot of work to do with it but hate waiting for the compressor to charge.

For small items, I had great luck with a $25 hand held sand blaster from tractor supply. It looks like an older paint spray gun. My DeWalt 20 gallon compressor had no issues keeping up given the amount if media it held

    Re: Sand blasters

Mine's a siphon unit, thus the inefficiency. A gravity feed on a pressure tank would be superior. If you already have multiple tanks, I would not bother with a pressure tank blaster, you only need the head. I like your plan. The next time I run mine, I'll connect my portable (an older 1 HP 20 gallon oiled type) in parallel.

I may get a gravity feed blaster too, it would have less lag time and use less air. I have a friend's VP SX stern drive to blast and can use it as an excuse to upgrade.

After looking at them, I may just go with a gravity gun to see if it works. If I need something bigger, I'll go that route. I'm running out of space to store things.

That's funny, I had a gravity gun in my basket and then took at long look at that VP stern drive and bought a 20 lb pressurized feed unit instead (using the coupon code). I also bought three face shields. They are necessary for non-cabinet blasting work and they wear out fast.

How did the 20lb unit work out? I'm still in the hunt. But I need to blast the wheels on the little car to refinish them this spring so it has become a bit of a need now. I do have access to our 10hp 300gal compressor at work now, so air shouldn't be as much a concern.
