Closest to F1 would be Indy Car. Whats the Indy lap record for the Loudon roadcourse? I think 1:02?

check the live graphic of a MotoGP race, they brake into a corner and are of course off the throttle, I doubt the F1 guys even slow up!! Yes- corner speed!!

Weird - the circuit maps for F1 and MotoGP on the silverstone website are identical - although the quoted length for MotoGP is .006 miles longer.

Annoyingly I cant find the same comparison for the 2011 GP/MotoGP - the above is for 2012.

BBC seems to imply its the same layout used for both, and that identical layouts were used for the 2010 British Grand Prix (F1)

Yeah, it looks like they might actually be the same, I was under the impression F1 still used the old chicane at Abbey instead of turning to the infield. I didn't see the F1 race there, so I have no idea, I just assumed something like that would account for such a drastic difference.

Nope - both circuits are as far as I can find, 100% identical. Both MotoGP and F1 now make the right hander into the infield at Abbey. Bridge and farm straight no longer exist for either class, and according to the Silverstone site are not used in any circuit layout.

IMO their noise level is only second to NHRA dragsters.

At GV I had heard the cars all through the practices and quali - and they were loud, but all the cars coming down to the hairpin at the start of the race was absolutely amazing; a symphony of 192 pistons at an eardrum piercing 432,000 rpms (Sorry, 414,000 when you subtract Liuzzi.) Then all the downshifts and upshifts, were equally as crazy.

Another cool thing was Hamilton running out of fuel on his in lap at the end of qualifying. He had just enough fuel for his Q3 fast lap. He got out and pushed his car partway back to the pits haha. Talk about on the limit.

    Anyway, carry on.

True that, an awesome, stock sports car can have sustained lateral grip with 1G(1 gravity) of force, while F1 cars AVERAGE 2.5-3G of lateral force with maximum sustainable lateral force around 5G. The tires take some serious punishment.

I'm sure some people here already know this, but I felt like tootin so I did.

    Re: Speed difference

I was under the impression the down force they made was in the 3000+ pound range. Twice the weight of the car itself, hence the ability to pull 5 g's around corners. Sometimes during the F1 race they'll show an on board shot and have a graphic on the screen that shows g-force. Negative 4 g's under braking, upwards of 5 lateral, and 2-3 from acceleration. It's sick.

I once read the V8's make around 160 decibels. Sitting in the prima variante grandstand at Monza, 1-2 F1 cars was doable without ear plugs, but it still hurt. The ear plugs were definitely in place when all 20 cars came screaming down the front to turn 1.

It's kinda like a full grid of 250cc gp bikes getting ready to start a race. It's so stupid loud you feel temporary insanity, piss your pants and forget who you are or what you're doing
