1991 cr250, Needs pistons & rings. Motor is not in the bike right now. Body is in decent condition for the year.
He wants 500.00.
What do ya think? Should I stay away and just get one that is running and together or get this one and sink some cash in it for a decent bike when completed?
I do not ride a ton off road but want something I can ride while I take the kids out on there ATV's.....JKust don't want to buy a POS...
Thanks!

Youre probably better off buying something that runs. For around 1500-2000 you can get a good running bike. If you hunt around you can get decent bikes from 1000 that dont need work. Youll probably end up putting at least 500 into that CR to in parts and time spent to fix it up right where you could hav ejust bought a bike and rode from the monet you got it homeKeep your eye here as there are deals that do come around.

ya I agree, scrap the idea on that original bike. Cruise craigslist for a few days...I saw an 03 cr125 that needs a topend or something for 1200, and a few 04-05 250fs for 2K ish. good luck

Hey Eric,
If you haven't picked a bike up yet, I'll be putting mine up for sale in the Bargainnews next week, and calling a couple of others that may be interested as well. Let me know.
'01 CR250. runs and looks good. Aside from the dirt I have on it from the last ride, it's a clean bike. $1,500. if you don't make me wash it.
It goes up to $1,700 after Christmas.
The pics are when I first got it. It now has Protapers CR bend(mid) instead of the renthal, and small hand guards. Other than that, it's still the same.
My brother inlaw has a '87 YZ250 he'd part with for short. I think it's an '87, it was wunna the first liquid cooled ones. He rebuilt the engine, shock & fork, new knobs and replaced the water pump last year. Then he went out and bought a Raptor so he could hang out with me. He just wants it outta his yard. I bet if you searched the site, you'd find the thread about it...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
HERE'S the thread. Never mind that $1000. I'd bet he'd take $500 at this point. Not sure if that email I listed is working anymore either...

Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Now that is something I would be interested in....

..It is definately more bike than I need, but I am interested since it is a good price for what looks to be a decent ride....
I have not riden in dirt since I was 16.....and that was only for a short time.
I am getting my kids into the sport right now and need something to ride while out with them plus I am sure I will meet up w/ others to once I get a dirt bike....![]()

I just shot him an Email on it, see what the scoop is. If the Email bounces back I wil call him right after X-Mas.....
Trying to get my 12 year old a bike first, just got back from looking at a 04 TTR-125, guy wanted 750 for it. I got there and looked at it, had the cash, but he never showed up.....
Think that is a decent bike to learn on? he has a 90 atv (automatic) and has never ridden dirt bikes....Want something he can learn on and grow into, rather than out of....

depending on how good of a rider your son is, i wouldnt knock off that 250. but to the avg person nevermind a 12 yr old used to an automatic 90, a 250 smoker might be a bit of a handful to say the least especially if your into woods riding. might be better off looking for something like a small crf in the 100-230 range and some older xr's can be had for cheap.
Tuono
The 250 would be for me.....I need something to ride while out with the boys...
I am looking at 100-125 for my son who is 12.....only ridding time has been on 4 wheelers...started on the 50, now has the 90, wants to ride dirt now so i need something that he can ride......debating on a 85 automatic or jump right into one he has to shift. .......Gotta learn sometime I guess...
You definitly dont want to get him a 125 if he has never ridden a bike before. Has he grasped the concept of clutch, gas, and shifting at all? If he has you can try something like a KX 65. Its a short bike but has a ton of nut. If he is a bit taller then maybe one of the 80s or 85s. The one we have a the shop is a wheelie machine. If he hasnt has any experience then look for something like a xr 100 which is now called the CRF100. Its a pretty tame bike to learn on but is has a enough engine to where he wont out grow it super fast. Its what Im going to teach my GF on soon.
Yea, He has absolutely no dirt bike experience, I was looking at a 04 TTR-125, Maybe a ttr-90 is a better choice or one of the 80's. Something with an auto-clutch.
Thanks!
