About the oil filter on the EX250, it is internal so you don't even need to clamp it. Just make sure the cover is on tight.

I just picked up a Ninja 250 this weekend. I am running it on the street to get a feel for it.

I plan to wire it up and do a bunch of track days on it. The 250 should be a blast for working on corner speed.

The only other prep (aside from making sure regular maintenance is up to date) I'd recommend on the 250 is removal of the centerstand. If you get aggressive with lean angles, you'll also want to remove the sidestand and use a rearstand when in the paddock (but you should be fine for at least one track day with the sidestand installed).

Upgrading suspension is nice but not necessary; upgrading tires is only necessary if you're running the stock K630s, in which case you should replace them ASAP even if you never go near a track.
