Figurd this was the best place to ask this. As I'm relatively new to the whole street riding thing. I'd really like to go to a school for performance riding to learn how to really whip a street bike around. So I guess my question would be any suggestions? I feel like a total dweeb asking as I've been riding all my life just not on the street. Thanks for any input guys.![]()

There's a good number of track day organizations that would be a good fit for you if you're interested in heading up to the track. TTD, BoMo, LAPS, etc etc. Most of them use a 3 group rotation with beginner, intermediate and advanced and offer classroom time in between sessions. It's a non-competitive, supervised environment that's both fun and educational.
Of course, my personal fav is in my sig. Click the banner to check our website for details, it's pretty chalk full of good info and like some other orgs, we also have a program specifically for first timers. If you have any questions, feel free to fire away
In addition to track and classroom time, we also offer 1-on-1 instruction and the Lee Parks Total Control Advanced Rider Clinic at our New Hampshire events. People seem to be really liking that, doing it on day 1 of our two day events, then hitting the track on day two.
Another option that's not quite as advanced as a track day would be the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Experienced Rider Course... that covers all the basic stuff that they go over in the beginner rider course, but they expand on it a little bit. It may be a little more basic than you're looking for though. More info on their website here: www.msf-usa.org

Or you could just do Penguin and come racing with us. I am sure you would be fine with all the riding experience you have.

Truth be told I really want a supermoto but can't afford it right now. Seems like a natural progression from dirt riding to me. I've spent all my life on big bore dirt bikes screamin across the mojave desert and pismo dunes. I'm a died in the wool two stroke power junky if only I could make a CR500 street legal. I could make one race legal though I imagine. Ohh if only I could hit the lottery.

I just checked out the penguin website and that is friggin sweeeeett! Not sure what way to go now just straight school or actually get a race license Hmmmm I'm liking the race license though. Is there even a racing class for a 95 Zx6r? Sorry for all the question but you guys rock this is the best bike forum I've come across. I'm a little excited sorry lol.

Yes, there is a class for that bike. Its called old, slow and heavy class. Just giving you the dirty truth.
You mean Novice!
For the OP.
You can make a CR500 street legal in Vermont.
Many people race Supermoto's at Loudon. (450's)
A13X is rather sucessful on them, Crash Dummy Denno on the other hand... not so much.
Do a couple trackdays with your current bike to get a feel for it, get all your gear together and learn the line.
Then decide if you want to race.

Regarding your questions on the Penguin School.
I'd say if that's your mindset try the Friday Track Experience class. Scott Greenwood #1 LRRS plateholder is your Instructor for the day and can give you all the feedback in the world on taking it to the race level. Also you'll be immersed in the Penguin program with the Basic License folks and Advanced Classes going on all around you. Then in the second half of the day the LRRS Racers show up and are on the track too (not with you, all seperate groups)
You'll walk away with better riding skill and a much better understanding of what goes on in the racing scene. Win-win.
Yea I race a motard. It's fun. I started on a traditional motorcycle though. Also skipped the trackday stuff and went right to the Penguin School. You're mileage may vary.
Also since you are fairly new and I'm fairly inactive lately I'll let you know I'm a Instructor with the School and have worked with them in various capacities since 2005. Therefore my comments reflect that relationship.

As another guy who grew up playing in the dirt, I recommend taking your big heavy and slow bike to the track and learning to ride IT like it should be ridden. Then once you have a vague feel how to get around nhms at a resonable pace think about what you actually want to ride/race. Any of the td companies and their staff will help you as much as you like. All you have to do is ask.

Got my license thru Penguin recently and did a few race with their school bike; Should have done it way sooner. I Recently picked up a sv and hope I can get it preped up before the season ends so i can do more races.....
BTW, checkout the LRRS site for the rule book. I guess like myself, as a NV, stop worrying TOO much about the bike and concentrate on getting more efficient with riding it fast.
Enjoy!
Seriously, WOW.
No filter there.
Me personally. I'm all for testing things before I jump.
I would think about a track day before you think about stepping into the hot seat. No pressure, just pure riding.
