dewd... it's a headlight... stop bein aand go look at the stupid thing. It's not like you gotta dismantle the entire bike, it should be easy as pie...... now if you owned a Honda, that'd be a different story... you'd have to get at it from the fuckin tail section w/ a heat seeking girbil armed w/ a headlamp & a star key.
(oh man... that visual is just wrong... i shouldn't have used that hypothetical in this situation given who i'm talking to)

I just asked my brother how he does it on his 03' R1 and he said....
1. unplug the wires from the light.
2. pull the protective boot out of the way
3. push in and down on the retaining clip/spring thing
4. the retaining clip will swing out of the way allowing you to pull the headlight socket out of the housing
No tools needed.
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?
And for future reference, be a little more gentle when you set your wheelies down!!!![]()

OreoGaborio is right, it really is a PITA on Hondas, I'm still looking for the correct model of heat seaking gerbil to change my headlights when they eventually burn out.
A while ago I tried to pull the plugs for the headlights and they are stuck on so hard I thought I was going to break the bulb trying to unplug them. (Another Honda thing, electrical fasteners that are designed to withstand a nuclear blast, being able to detach/fasten them is a secondary consideration)
i have a honda 954 and i can change all 3 headlights in 30 seconds. its the exact same way you change the r1 as instructed by by-tor. maybe other honda models are more difficult, but not all of them are

Things that make you go hmmmm
Yeah, real fucking simple, ya stupid fucking Yamaha manual:
1. Remove plug
2. Remove rubber housing
3. Remove bulb.
4. Reverese order w/new bulb.
now someone please tell me WHERE the fuck in those directions is the part about:
-dropping the bulb-spring into the fairing
-removing fairings to find spring
-losing a fairing bolt
-stepping on old bulb
-getting broken glass in your hand
-dropping the bolt from the other side into the other fairing
-taking that fairing off
-having some little brat ask me if i can do Ice Cube / Torque tricks
-AND dealing with the rain shower in the middle of the whole fucking thing?
moral: don't do wheelies anymore, becuase I'm not good enough to set them down baby-smooth, which wont cuase my fucking headlights to break. i need a cocktail. perhaps several.
