I'm waiting for another "REAL" SuperSport replacement, a-la 1992-1998. No more SportClassics...
The hypermptard isn't all that expensive... Ask me how I know
that beig said, I personally would really enjoy a smaller version. Although I love the handle of the 1100, it is a bit much for me as the throttle is so easy to flick (again, ask me how I know). So I think I could stay out of a significant amount of trouble in the future if I personally went smaller... So I'm looking forward to testing it out!

price&weight seems a bit high to me compared to the 1100, especially if the susp is going to be non-adjustable, unless the 1100 has a $$$ increase coming next year.
I'd say $9995 is just slightly high of what I'd expect, maybe $8995 would be more appropriate. Barring major price increases, this would set the price relationship between the Monster 696 and Hyper 796 the same as the Monster 1100 and Hyper 1100 (Both $11995).
But if that picture is a real representation, I don't like the fact that they swapped the cool mirror/handgaurd/turn signal idea for conventional antennae mirrors. Dropping stuff like that (in addition to non-adjustable suspenders) makes me think they wanted to budget for the bike to cost a lot less.
Other than that, it looks okay, but it just feels like this niche was so small to begin with, and they're trying to find an even smaller group within it to sell this bike to. I guess I prefer the Monster line anyway, so maybe I'm slightly biased.
I have a 2008 Hyper and it's definitely the most fun you can have on a bike.
Plenty of power for ANYONE on the street (nobody needs to do 150mph on the street, I don't care who you are). Great ergos, sweet power, wheelies like nobody's business, and looks cool.
The air cooled 2V motor kicks ass and you can't beat it on the twisty backroads of New England. I don't want to deal with coolant if I don't have to.
That being said, I'm not sure I'd want a 796. The power of the 1100 is too nice.

So is the 796 the 800ss motor?

That's exaclty what I was hitting at earlier, dropping the goodies so the masses can 'afford' their Ducati.
If you buy a "Sumo" w/out adjustable suspension, you get what you deserve.
I agree with Doc on the SS motor, put that and adjusters into a Hyper and you got one hell of a hyper-sumo.
