I know many of you have started riding and have been riding for awhile now.
How about you let everyone know how the various roads are for conditions like killer potholes, sand, salt, frost heaves etc?
Sam
Got some nice potholes on my street here in newton, MA. Avondale road. Be careful on it. Got some sand here too.

I've been driving rt 17 (App Gap ) on a regular basis this year. Not to dampen any potential tourism or anything but I'm not sure if I'd take a dual sport bike over it right now. The frost heaves are bad and the crevasses are worse. Pick a different route on a motorcycle for sure!

Vermont roads in general are pretty horrendous at this point. LOTS of frost heaves. But they'll settle in the next couple of months.
I don't expect to be seeing much repaving this year though after most towns supposedly blew their entire year's road maintenance budget on this crazy ass winter.

I have yet to see a street-sweeper at all. The sand isn't as bad as it was a month or two ago but be careful on the backroads still.
My town was still sanding/salting as recently as Monday.
I can't recall seeing roads this bad in years. The state highway near my house feels like a straighter version of Hurricane Mountain road right now.
Westford, Littleton and Acton aren't too bad. Decent pothole fixes, most roads aren't too bad for debris. Frost heaves suck and there is black ice still especially at 6:30 am . I know this first hand.
In the Candia NH area, there are frost heaves large enough to jump with the KTM. It's so much fun!
I haven't been out on the Kawi yet due to the crappy roads.

I've been on my road bike all winter, up close and personal with all the sand and pot holes New England has to offer.
Roads West of Boston are significantly worse than roads North of Boston. I've done a bit if riding up Around Franconia as well. The Major paved roads are in good shape, the fun "in-betweeners" are in rough shape though with frost heaves and tons of Sand.
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
They also salted on Monday in Salem (Mass).
I rode in this morning, and on 128 southbound at the Sheraton Colonial in Wakefield the surface of the road was apparently so bad they've already ground it down for repaving, perhaps last night? They didn't sweep sufficiently enough afterwards, so I was blasted with dust and chunks of road from the cars in front of me.![]()
no bikes currently
Salem, Beverly, Lynn all in horrible shape. Not only potholes but loads of sand too...and salt piles. Seems like at various points the salt spreaders just sat in one spot for a while and left the thing running. Small little salt mounds I'm seeing all over....what a waste..
Melt (& refrozen melt) is still an issue in So N.H. It's unpredictable, covers craters that you would otherwise avoid, and throws out random sections of black ice in the A.M. That said in the last five days I've seen quite a bit of improvement...Actual road surface is a different story, absolutely hammered...
Most of the roads near my house still have a thick layer of ice covering them. Where it has melted is rutted slop with pothole washboards for 50-100 feet at a time.
I won't be getting the bike out for another few weeks at this rate.
