I’ve only seen the toy models in red and orange, were they ever actually produced?

Where did you find this beast?

I’ve been searching some EU sites and have found some R7 related parts, but not the parts I need. If I had unlimited funds, I’d buy them just because.

Carbon wheels, I would definitely email BST on the topic.
I emailed BST wheels yesterday, they responded back this morning saying if there’s no visual damage, they are good to go.
I think the air box is going to be the hardest part, I’d even buy the race air box if it came available. It will not run without the air box.

The only color combo for an original R7, is red, white and black. Same color combo as the red/white/black R6 and R1 in 1999
Re: Bad decisions were made today..
There is an ow-o2 group on facebook also.

Was this thing partially parted out? How did they manage to lose the air box?
Awesome purchase BTW. I wouldn't have thought there were any ratty ones out there, would have guessed that they were all pristine and stored in museums or living rooms.

The bike started its life in Ohio, made its way to RI at some point.

Chalk it up as life happens, definitely was not parted out. If this were a pristine bike, it would not have been in my purchase price range. I’m certain if I’m able to find all the parts on my parts list, it will be a pristine museum piece. For 23 years old, it’s in extremely good condition.
Re: Bad decisions were made today..
Looking forward to following along with this project!
Just for reference on the BSTs - nothing related to age, but other points of inspection: https://blog.brocksperformance.com/b...tion-document/ (Coming from someone who mounted a set of 10 year old BSTs on my street bike yesterday)

Really? not in my experience. but that is going back to EX500 days... so maybe not relevant anymore.

Have had pretty good luck with them on various Ducati applications…

Not sure I'd classify this in the bad decision category!

Oddly, the major gaskets are still available. I have the YEC race gasket set that came with the bike, but the throttle body to air box gaskets are missing.
My last R7 hurt to sell, but at the time, it’s what I needed to do. I was also slightly in panic mode at the announcement of Yamaha no longer producing parts.
Picking up the last of the parts that came with the bike today. I also confirmed yesterday that the stock bodywork will not work with the Superbike radiator. I’ll have to put the stock radiator back in. Not sure what to do with the SBK radiator, I’m sure if sold, it could fund a lot of this restoration. But it sure is a cool work of art to look at.

what's on your list of parts mark?

Once I get home, I’ll get the full list. Basically all the part numbers that start with 5FL , are R7 specific. I’ve already ordered a bunch of the generic Yamaha parts that were shared with the same era R1/R6.

There’s something special about opening up a 20+ year old box with new parts.

Are those Italian?
Re: Bad decisions were made today..
R7 specific parts I need, I’d be willing to pay a finders fee to anyone that finds these parts, and finder fee paid once they are in my possession.
Air box assembly.
5FL-14401-00-00
Throttle body gaskets.
5FL-14239-00-00 (need 4)
Front fender.
5FL-21511-00-P0
Side cover (tail section)
5FL-Y2171-00-0X
Seat.
5FL-24710-00-00
Rear under tail.
5FL-2163A-00-00
Radiator hose.
5FL-12482-00-00
Chain guard.
5FL-22311-00-00
For me, priority parts are the air box, coolant hose, and the TB gaskets.
The coolant hose is unique, it’s the metal type that bolts to the top of the head in 2 places.

My 2003 R1 coolant tubes look like this for the two that bolt into the valve cover. Oring slides onto the end. May be very similar or something you can modify. At least if the head interface worked, it would save a lot of work.
