Oddly enough, even though this post was about the inline-4 liter bikes, I have given up on them and have to decide between a Ducati Monster S4r and the Aprilia RSV 1000R. And before anyone comments, I realize that one is a race bike and the other is a comfortable street bike. I just seem to have an obsession with italian twins (no pun intended), and I hate the look of the Ducati 999, so I have to choose between the horsepower and uncomfortable ride of the Aprilia and the comfort and huge torque of the Monster. I will let you guys know what I decide on, but I can tell you right now that I won't be riding an inline-4 bike anytime soon.
Several testers of the Monsters state that they like the air-cooled monsters more than the liquid-cooled variants. The Monster 1000 is actually torquier than the S4R and is a lot less maintenance-intesive than the S4R. That is something to think about as well.
Let's hear it for V-twins!![]()

Actually, the 1000 only has about 63 lbs/ft of torque, whereas the S4R has about 70, only the max torque of the 1000 comes at a lower RPM.Originally posted by 02SuperHawkRdr

Hey, 996...
Do yerself a favor and take a look at the Aprilia Tuono. That bike is a super-duper torque monster.
And, to me, ugly as hell. But, beauty is in th eye of the beholder, right?Originally posted by lrrs167

i took a test ride on the tuono on saturday. awesome bike - it was so much fun i didn't even notice how ugly it was![]()
the only normal people are the ones you don't know very well.
I honestly think that I will be getting a 2004 Ducati Monster S4R. It's a beautiful bike, I can get a great deal on it, and its going to be much more comfortable than any bike I've ever owned. I looked at the Tuono for about 30 seconds and couldn't get over how ugly it is. It seems to have retained everything that I don't like about the 2003 Mille. Its just not for me.
Yeah, I can see how it'd be tough to go from the classic lines of a 996/8 to the 999; PT really hosed that one up, eh?
I've heard the 999 performs pretty well and is a bit more comfortable/adjustable. That ass bucket is as wide as my trashcan lid. With some mods you could prolly make it look pretty decent. First shitcan those mirrors! Think I also remember hearing it get's pretty hot around the seat.
The S4R is nice. I still don't like the one-sided cans, CC, and something about the SSS bugs me; wish they'd just kept it simple and straight instead of gettin' all fancy near the rear sprocket.
But it's got the 996 DQ... THAT's nice.

Stopped into brockton cycles. They had a slew of zx-10's. Several R1's as well.
If I was buying a weekend/trackday only bike it'd be the zx-10 in black. It's not a flat black either, looks amazing in person. For an everyday ride it'd prob be a toss up between R1 and the CBR. I like the red R1, saw it out in the sunshine yesterday.![]()
If you don't need a race rep I have been dreaming of a aprillia falco.![]()
