I was at a local bar in Beverly getting a burger before I was supposed to meet up with some people for a ride. Just as my burger shows up a guy who just left the bar comes back in and asked me if I drive a bike. I say yes and he tells me he "bumped" it a little. I ask him if its still upright and he tells me no. I go outside and sure enough my baby is lying on her side. The guy did a number on her. Both front fairings are scratched to hell, case covers scratched, tail is all beat, left blinker is hanging, mirror is all scratched (which I just bought off of PastaRocket) swing arm is scratched, upper fairing fucked, kickstand is bent a little(also just replaced after I raised the bike to factory height, was lowered 3" when I bought it) and my left slider is now "used". I got all the guys info which I'm thankful for because he could of taken off. He remarked to me how calm I was and I just said you could be half way home before I knew what happened. I even thanked him.
Where do you take a bike to? I'm assuming you don't take it to a body shop right? He would like me to get a couple estimates because I gave him the option of his insurance paying or him paying me. Any guidance on how I should proceed? Thanks

glad to hear he didn't take off. Bring it to Mark over at breaklites on rt.1 peabody, he is great with insurance companies and will get you everything you need. Tell him Mike sent you, and he may work at getting things done a little sooner for you.
that sucks! but at least the guy did the right thing. i hope it all works out for you.
Let him or the insurance pay. But at all cost still file a accident report with the police, so you have t documented that he hit your bike and is taking 100% responsibility.
Just my $0.02
that sucks man, sorry to hear. at least he stopped and did the right thing - not much of that going around anymore.
on a lighter note, what bar? i'm up in that area quite a bit...wonder if i've ever seen you/bike around.
Do you ever ride with the crew that leaves Breaklites for bike nights?
Fibber Maggee's on Cabot st. silver and black cbr 600rr. I don't usually take the bike to bars, but tonight I was hungry. Just in case people are wondering I was drinking Pepsi.
You got stuff from pasta-rocket before, I'm sure he can find plenty more.......
Not sure about Mass, but I know in several states, parking lots like that are considered private property, so there's no use filing an accident report, or even contacting the police.Let him or the insurance pay. But at all cost still file a accident report with the police, so you have t documented that he hit your bike and is taking 100% responsibility.
Several years ago, when we were living in Seattle, some chick backed out of her stall in a parking lot and T-boned my car. When we called the cops, he came and said that there was nothing he could do. The kicker of it, the girl didn't even have a driver's license. She had to call her brother to come and get her because the cop told her, if she drove out of the lot, he'd arrest her...
Anyway, sorry to hear about your bike, but I'm glad to hear the dude did the right thing.

Bummer dude, sorry to hear about your misfortune. No matter where you park theres alwyas a chance that an idiot is gonna hit your bike. Thank god the the guy was cool and didn't take off. Good Luck.

wow although he made a mistake and i wish it didnt happen i guess there still are honest people in this world
Damn..Was wondering were you were.
Good to hear he manned up and came and told you. 9 times out of 10 people would just take off.
Sucks that it happened though, Hopefully nothing damaged that will keep you off the road.

That sux man but I agree take it to mark at breaklites he great with that stuff
i would have fucking flipped. his face would have met the top of my helmet real quick. much respect for keeping your cool my friend. hope the whole thing works out for you.
Just some dumbass
Thanks for the help guys. I definitely need to take it to someone that knows what to look for besides the obvious. I put it on the stand this morning and went over it again. I need to add left foot peg, left grip and the bar seems a little tweaked, clutch lever, and brake lever to the long list. I'm finding it hard to believe that this guy just bumped it. Good thing is, its still rideable, ugly but rideable.
For the Breaklite's guys, do they charge a fee for estimates like cycles 128 does? I think its like $75.00 but they give it back to you if you have the bike fixed.
I assume that all the plastics are replaced, not repaired right?
That would be nice. Ultimately I would like to just get a check from him, and fix the stuff as I see fit. Judging from the car he was in I don't think he'll have a problem with that. My sliders did a great job protecting the bike and put a nice hole in his brand new Lexus bumper.
Did a quick shopping list for OEM parts and the total is $3,078.93. I'm sure I wont get that number from a estimate but it might be close including labor, which I would do.

I would personally let the insurance deal with it, you may end up with a new bike and the ability to buy your old one back for a cheap race bike.
I'de get the check and sell the bike and buy a new one![]()

when i lowsided last year, i checked OEM pricing for plastics. the fairing was like $530 plus another few hundred for decals. i found a mint OEM one with decals on eBay for $165 shipped.
just saying with an older popular bike like yours, you could easily save a lot of cash on getting the parts yourself after you get a check from him or if you do the insurance claim.
Yup, what everyone else said...
Take your time and find the parts cheap... you'll have plenty left over for goodies.
For example, I got a gas tank, headlights, taillights, every single OEM fairing in mint condition, seats, frigging EVERYTHING for 1000 bucks. That's like 3grand worth of parts. How do you think I afforded all those track goodies including track fairings and a sweet paintjob?
I will make more than that back on all those parts when I sell all my street parts this winter.
Look on bike-specific forums and keep your eyes peeled.

I definitely would like to do the work myself. I couldn't believe some of the prices for OEM. $75 for a mirror(that's one) Ebay its $20 for a pair. I figure with the money saved I could at least buy a decent suit and a couple track days.
