    Re: new old bike

Speed Triple would top my list of naked bikes, that would make a great 2nd bike. If I could only have one bike out of your list, the V-Strom would be it.

    Re: new old bike

I'd say the Speed Triple would be my favorite on that list, but only because its the sportiest one. Honestly, the best all-arounder of what you listed is probably the Bandit, mostly because of the comfy ergos, and Banditos can usually be had for cheap dough.

Maybe a good used Z1000 or Z750/ZR7S might fit in your price range, too.

More importantly, what kind of riding do you plan to do with it?

    Re: new old bike

Well a Gixer 1000 was the last.

It was the best bike I ever had out of like 30, I gave it high bars and the ergos were not God awful. Don't do track days and like to go exploring etc. Usual day long ride around North Adams etc. 250 miles, or weekend trips into North VT with Timmyduck . It sounds lame but the gixer always required laser like focus dial in the power, watch the speed, loose over poor pavement etc. Only rung it out once (177) otherwise saw redline like 6 times in 13000 miles.

I think UJM's are now more than enough for real roads. I also think that future fun will be away from even 2 lane numbered roads. The LEO's and the law are progressively less humourous. More compliant suspensions almost SUMO will be where its at but want real world 100 MPH speeds, passing, and power. The government doesn't want me to work so there may a few more 1 day overnights.

I will not spends for the big end hooligans of KTM or Ducati

My DRZ400 isn't bad but a little less than required for the real world.

Yeah, it sounds like the V-Strom is right up your alley.

    Re: new old bike

Any of those on your short list would be a great ride. I can vouch for the Speedy, but the Suzukis are both VERY capable and comfortable bikes. The Versys is only a 650 if I recall, so it won't have the ooomph of the others. Still a very nice bike though, depending on your weight and percent of highway usage. Bottom line, you can't go wrong with any of them............

    Re: new old bike

+1 on the Versys being down on power compared to the rest. But if you're willing to make do with less power, also look at the V-Strom 650 -- lighter and better-handling than the 1000, and still has plenty of power for aggressive twisties and highways. I've got no complaints with the power despite the fact that I weigh 260 lbs, and a friend of mine (who also has a Speed Triple, by the way) tours 2-up on his V-Strom 650.

    Re: new old bike

^ I agree. The smaller VStrom is a very versatile beast. The saddle is especially comfortable for long rides and it handles the twisties very well.............

    Re: new old bike

theres a couple with a bit of a higher price, but with it being so close to the holiday season you may be able to scoop one up cheap

ducati monster s2r 800 or higher or st3

keep your eyes peeled for a hyper you wont regret it.

very comfy more than capable all around and you will never look at another bike the same way.

    HHHMMM

Interesting never thought of a DUC but $$$ aren't too bad.

Callit predjudice but I believe of all the bikes that SUzis can go to like 40K without problems. Any idea of life expectancy of Ducs.

Yes FZ1 should be on my list.

I have now seen new Versys for as low as 5700 brandy new,

    Strom or Speed.

I had a Versys for two months and sold it. It was too sterile and boring. It worked well, but wasn't my thing.

    ^^^^ Yes my concern too

I do love acceleration but the Gixer beast I thought rerquired laser like focus and then the comfort thing.... MOstly legal rather than physical fear
