Kinda nice to see used prices (at least for stuff that isn't ultra rare) coming down from the stratosphere. Is this "literal winter is coming" or figurative "economic winter is coming" or a dimming of the post-COVID "fck it we're all gonna die let's all get used bikes" yolo impulse, or...???

I see more and more signs of economic winter is coming. I've been scouring dealerships looking for a new 4runner and every last one of them says the same thing, repos are the highest they have ever seen and other than the 4runner i want they arent really selling many cars or trucks. I've always considered repos to be a good indicator of the economy.
Road trip in 2 weeks with a friend to Ohio to pick up a 2004 Nicky Hayden RC51 with low miles!!!
anything wrong with these, specific issues, etc.... so cheap, so close, thinking may grab this...

Is "people buying too much new car" a problem with the economy? Obviously "unexpected need for a replacement whip" and "unexpected job loss or other impact event" are real phenomena, but somehow those things have never led Mr. Repo to nyoink my shit. I also bet there's a decent argument to be made that people *shouldn't* be buying new cars at many of their prevailing price points, but don't really have any of the scaled manufacturing or supply chain insight to back up that intuition with facts. I just know "oh hell nah I ain't paying that" for almost any new vehicle I've seen over the last few years. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When's times are good the first thing people usually buy is a new car, maybe out of need but certainly out of want too. And people generally indulge when they do. My new car indulgence during the pandemic was a new Chevy spark with crank windows. My friends was a $100k Toyota RAV4 prime. People do weird stuff sometimes. Point is costs are rising and those expensive cars everyone was buying are too much to bear for many people. You can only make so many cuts to the budget before you look out at the driveway and see what you can sell. Toys go first and cars can be considered a toy. Just look at the national average for car payments, it's like $800 a month just for the car, never mind insurance and taxes that go up x amount every year. All of a sudden repo looks like a good idea.
For him. He always loved RC51s. When I got mine, then he got one. Then he got another one. So this will be his third, but then I think he will sell one of the others. Same friend that has that XR600r.
I wish I could have kept my RC51 and just stored it and kept it, but I don't really have that ability, we have too much shit as it is. It was honestly hard to let it go after having it 16+ years.
guess i'll try and get down to see it tomorrow afternoon, can't really lose at that price if it's running.
I would be shocked if it's still there. If you don't buy it let me know, I will grab it.
think i'm gonna pass after his update / addition to the description:

Several astute points elegantly made there, Boost. Is it really possible to get a RAV4 into 6 figures? It's a quality vehicle and all, but got dayum that's a rough driver excitement-per-dollar ratio unless it came with special-edition "road head" seating layout or something. Even then, the Sienna was right there.

F'ing cackling at Frisky's latest. "Minor fire issue" is awesome. Working speedo isn't required to pass inspection though, right?

It was possible to get the RAV4 to nearly 100k just after the pandemic. With all the mark ups the prime addition was going for a little over $80k and when you added in taxes and stuff it was a touch over 90k. Personally I don't like the RAV4. Good car but I don't fit in it right. Same with the crv and it's stupid ebrake right in the foot well.

Please feel free to send his info my way but i think im out of luck on a 4runner. Not many new ones left to buy. I had focused on the gladiators again but many of them have a stop sale order on them because of a critical defect so i am rethinking my options yet again.
Oh boy. This is a steal. Looks clean too.

I knew the guy who owned this ten years ago. It was a nice bike, rare Yoshi. Always gave him shit for swapping the clip ons (for those who don't know, only 1989 GS500e had the clip ons)
It's also got a GSXR rear shock and some sort of aftermarket springs in the forks, I forget the brand

I've always like those gs500s. Simple modest bikes like the ex500.
I loved my GS500. Taught my wife to ride on it. That bike spent more time laying on the pavement than it did on two tires. Never skipped a beat.
