You are getting old dude, probably will want some wind protection and a little more comfort.....I would go with a VFR...just because......
What about a FJR or a XX? A little more power for two up. comfort, wind protection. I rented a XX when I was in Colorado. It was great for burning up big stretches of highway, and I also recently rode a new VFR. I liked, just when the big litre bikes romp the throttle, you will become a spot in their review....
I still love the smell of burnt racing fuel in the morning!
I think ya need ta add a Rokon to the list

We ARE getting old!
I don't like the looks of the FJ & XX. If I don't like lookin' at 'em, I won't like riding 'em. I'm not THAT old...
I can't imagine doing that type of mileage on that thing. I was hurtin' after 15 minutes!
If they made a 400 street-legal dual-sport, I would...

"You don’t need to tell me the horror story about your uncle’s buddy who wiped out his chopper while drag racing at some hooligan rally. That just makes me wish I were talking to your uncle’s buddy instead of you. He sounds pretty cool."

Yeah, I know that. It's certainly not your run-of-the-mill inline 4 however. Step aside...
The Tiger is about the only Triumph that truly gets my attention. But I like where you're going with this. Trailer 'em all up this weekend?
Bring it on up...and your gal...

The S1000 is pretty compact, probably not all that different from the rsv4 in terms of comfort.
I have an RC8 that you are welcome to try if I'm ever in your area. As far as new sport bikes go, it's pretty comfortable and very adjustable. I would also suggest that you add an rsvr to your list. I've had one for 8 years that's been stone reliable. It's a far superior bike to the RC51, IMO.

Therein lies the rub... closing on a house in 11 days and yeah..... If you are ever down in the Waltham area howevah, you are welcome to it! Or if you're still futzing about in a month or so.. we'll see..
I cannot say how vital the following mods are to make the ZRX what it needs to be:
-Forks, I got a 30mm Ohlins kit in em, but really anything would be better than stock.
-Shocks, ditto... I have dual Ohlins. Competent suspension that actually has damping is the biggest weak point the bike has.
Kid you not, 80% of bumps disappear now. It is telepathic handling and I am blown away by the ease of handling fast stuff, bumpy stuff, or dicing around the city traffic.
-Pod filters, not for performance, but they let you ditch the airbox and use that space for massive underseat storage, which is OH so handy.
-Exhaust, the full Muzz really does give a glorious tone, the 'Rex is a bit lumpy and one of few I4's with "Charachtahhh" IMO. But get the carbs and such sorted and it's buttery smooth powah everywhere.
'92 VFR. Black. "About 15k miles." Bike has a corbin that has been re-covered in vinyl after the leather split. Front end is re-sprung and "handles way better". Staintune slippon.
I have not seen the bike. Condition is reportedly "pretty clean, some minor cracks and scratches on the tail piece". Sounds like the bike has sat for a while and will probably need a carb clean and a set of tires, possibly a battery. It is stored at his "buddies place" in Ashland, MA. (Sorry, thought he said NH before.)
He seems pretty firm on his $1500 price. If interested, PM me and I can get you two in touch.
Thanks just the same, but I think I'll pass. That's a bit older than I'd want and deal or not, I want something I can put the key in and ride, ride, ride. In fact, if I go the street-legal dirty bike route, I don't wanna even be bothered with the task of adding directionals. I want something already outfitted with a full lighting kit and all that happy sheeeet...

Yep yep.
Ive ridden the RC51. its a awesome pig. its a big bike, but is super planted in corners. and the motor has an absurd amount power. the egos are super commited to the sport riding. I'm 5'8" 155lbs and I felt like a little kid riding it. also the heat that thing throws off is brutal.
problem with buy one of these is either the owner wants crazy money for it. or the others are beat to shit, and the owner still wants crazy money. and considering that they were last made in 06ish I have a problem spending more than 5 grand for a 6 year old sport bike
I recently had my '03 SV1000 stolen. owned it for about a year and a half and put close to 20K in it. It is a brilliant street bike, the motor is a sweetheart, plenty of grunt down low, and it has more than enough power to get you into trouble. If you like misbehaving at crazy speeds it does not have the top end hit. (which is fine in my book) because down low and mid range the thing pulls like a freight train. the ergos are a nice mix, sporty with out being terribly uncomfortable. I had an bastard model 03 so the rear subframe is taller. no issue for me except it was too uncomfortable for my g/f
dunno what your budget is, but the sv1K can be had relatively cheap.
vfr800. I was looking to replace my sv with a vfr. rode a friends and put 300 miles on it two up. I really liked the bike, the sound the motor makes has to be the best part. my only complaint was I wish it made a little more power, as the vtec thing was interesting. Accelerating though a corner and at 6500 when vtec kicks in, kinda upsets the bike just a bit. option b is to ride in vtec mode. whch it still has the power, but im used to riding twins and hate reving the engine. (ive been spoiled by the torque) if your really looking for one there is a MINt 07 in long island that I was going to buy. 07 anniversary edition and like 9K miles, 5,000 OBO when I talked to him last week.
I ended up pulling a complete 180 and brought a left over 2010 vfr1200 with factory luggage. send me a pm in a few weeks and ill tell you how I like it
I owned a TL-R for over 10 years. I'm intimately familiar with big, uncomfortable Vtwin pigs that throw off insane amounts of heat...
But as I pointed out over & over in this thread (and the other one), right now I'm really leaning towards a full-on dirt bike that's already been converted for street use. Yes, I'm fully aware of how relatively easy it is to accomplish that in NH. Just ask Mark & Ryan...
Now that you mention the big SV, there was one for sale here I need to go dig up...
