You wanna race an f2? read the rule book. f2 is thunderbike legal and maybe even lw legal.

You know this from experience or is this your opinion?

Again, have you personally footed the bill for a season racing a MW?

...and always so quick to bring up the meat grinder nonsense.

Well let's see... Looking at results I see no F2 running in MWSB.

Being to at the track the last 3 season I notice more red flags during MWSB. Everyone I know who does race a MWSB goes through more tires in a weekend than I do in Half a season... That alone makes it more expensive.

The facts are there, just because I have yet to run a season in MWSB does not mean they are not.
Your tire reference isnt fair. a f2 makes about 70 hp and a new mw bike makes well over 100.
    hp kills tires...fact.
not to mention more than half of the races on the schedule a mw bike is competitive.
you would go through more tires too if you did more than 2 races a weekend and 6 races a season.

All the advice here is from racers coming from a racing standpoint. the guy is doing TRACKDAYS, he just wants a cheap reliable bike to have fun on without too much concern of crashing it.
the bottom line is ive owned an f2 and f3 and they are fantastic bikes, well mannered, forgiving, good handling and for $1500 IF you decide to move into racing you can probably sell it for close to that.
buy it, put doc on your ignore list unless you want to know about hawks because according to doc the only bikes that exisist on this planet are ducs and hawks.
if you like it buy it, the main goal is to take it to the track and have fun at a TRACKDAY....NOT RACEDAY.
is a F2-4 gonna win you a championship if you do decide to race? not unless you strap it to your delorean... will it bring you endless fun at a trackday? absolutely
You need help with your reading comprehension.

No i dont. all i read is "race this, race that, mw this, meatgrinder that, expensive, race, non competitive"
    TRACKDAYS PEOPLE TRACKDAYS.
for $1500 you could sell it for close to that in a few years if you decide to move up to racing

All youve managed to do is talk the kid out of a perfectly good bike for trackdays and essentially preventing him from having fun

What are the odds that bike ends up in Doc's garage before week's end?

Re: should i buy an old cbr f2 as a track bike?

I hadn't considered the age of the bike, the F2 falls into a ton of exceptions in LRRS/CCS as long as it's not a 1994 model year bike...

SS - all engine mods are allowed, any carbs are ok
    - MWSS - Engine can be built to the nines, 640cc max

    SB
    - MWSB unfortunately, no age loopholes

    GP
    - MWGP unfortunately, no age loopholes

    Thunderbike
    - Legal if 92 or earlier, 650cc cap

    GT
    - GTU

    Formula 40
    - Lightweight if 92 or earlier

    Sportsman
    - Not legal

    Formula 50
    - Lightweight if 92 or earlier

(Interestingly, air cooled 4v inline 4 750s are allowed in ULSB, but not LWSB?)

Where was this sick f2 that you speak of?

btw those f2s are thunderbike legal and you can go as far as putting on a f4 swingarm and suspension. f3 forks bolt right up as do the carbs
Boston area. According to the seller, it was a honda factory race bike. Full ohlins, built motor, spare motor... seemed like a hell of a bike. I didn't realize it might be legal for classes other than MWSB - I may have to see if it's still available.

Fucked on the tramper for this weekend, I need more professional help than I can get. Prob stuck in tent and/or red roof for first weekend - better to do it right then rush and hack it.

Yes, you should call him and see if it's still available, as well as year. If I can run it in all the classes mentioned in this therad I'd buy it today.

Im sure that you wont get any complaints for running it in THBK, there was no difference in that bike from 92 to 93

Re: should i buy an old cbr f2 as a track bike?

haha, just stumbled across this old thread by accident. there is some funny shit in here! who would have thought, just over a year ago, i was tenative about buying a shagged out f2 for track days...bought it, had a blast poking slowly around nhms, crashed, rode some more, sold it to another dude (who just did penguin last month on it, its still running awesome, but the suspension is still a pogo stick lol). now im racing an sv in AM. what a year. figured id resurrect this for fun, and to point out that if you are worried about getting an old track bike to have a blast on, just DO it!

one thing that hasnt changed, is doc still sucks
