    Re: Chicken strips

i had smaller chicken strips on the F3 because my body position would cause the bike to lean more during turns. With better body position I don't use the side of the tire as much on the street so my strips are slightly larger on the R6.

Though I'm sure they'll be gone after a track day. It's possible to scrub the strips off on the street. But if you use correct body position in spirited street riding, it takes either some very tight turns or downright reckless street riding to get to the edge of the tire. Don't use correct body position and you run the risks associated with road debris combined with less available grip and control, which also isn't fun.

I've never "tried" to get rid of chicken strips. I'll look at my tires occasionally, but more to make sure there aren't any defects, etc. I never even heard the term 'chicken strips' until NESR. I didn't care then and I still don't now. I ride to have fun, not to come back with me LED's and chrome blinging and boast about how I have the smallest chicken strips.

As far as scraping around the hairpin, I wish I had a pic! Next time we need to have someone ride down and take pictures on the hairpin.

it also depends where you live. Like here on the cape there is no possible way to get rid of your strips. if you try you will will prolly die trying. the roads and traffic conditions (sand and tourists) wont let you. Same with City riding. I have to ride an hour or so just to get to a street worth getting my lean on. well maybe a rotary. but you get the point.

That's a good point about tire profile... the tires that came with my bike were much rounder, whereas the corsa IIIs have a much more aggressive profile. They take much more lean to use all of them. And they're so sticky
I just got a set of corsa III's and I couldn't care less about my chix strips because you need a serious lean angle to get rid of them on those tires, but I'm a skinny bastard and I ride an old heavy bike so I have to hang off a bit on the twisties.

Only time I care about chicken strips is when some dudes talking a lot of game, and still has 2 inch chicken strips, then I play that card

    Re: Chicken strips

here are mine, just have about 1300 miles on them, Pilot Power 2CT's

i lean and feel more comfortable taking right turns, i went down taking a left turn 2 years ago on my 06gsxr 600 so im still a lil nervous sometimes going left.

the tire is a 190/55 so im wondering if it makes it harder to get rid of them...even though I know that it is no measure of how good a rider is

yea but most 190s are 190/50...i wonder if there is any difference with the 55 cause it is a steeper and taller tire...which is awesome cause it drops into turns effortessly

Must be that Pirellis are steep. My Supercorsas are steep and I have a 1/2 inch I will probably never get rid of.

not a good point, roads are crowned 2-3% which would account for the tread wear to be about .05mm to the left of center, if you can see that with the nekid eye, you got good eyesight

keena has the correct answer, we drive on the right side of the road, curves to the left have a larger radius and are longer than the same curve going in the other direction, we spend more time on left handers in countries where they ride on the left side of the road, they notice more wear on the right side of the tire
