Ok, much like how a criminal always returns to the scene of the crime, 12 hours later, I just HAD TO go back to the crash site to look again... took some pictures too:
Here's the 15 MPH sign that i missed:
<img width=500 src="http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~elaine/stuff/f4i/bad6.jpg">
a little past the sign, you can see the road dips down
<img width=500 src="http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~elaine/stuff/f4i/bad5.jpg">
this is where i entered the turn:
<img width=500 src="http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~elaine/stuff/f4i/bad3.jpg">
this is where i found out that the turn KEEPS TURNING
OOPS
<img width=500 src="http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~elaine/stuff/f4i/bad4.jpg">
damages:
<img width=500 src="http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~elaine/stuff/f4i/bad0.jpg">
and a bent brake lever, and that's it!! i got off rather easy, i think!!
<img width=500 src="http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~elaine/stuff/f4i/bad1.jpg">
werd, that does look super fun if you're familiar w/ the turn
read your other thread, glad you're ok... definitely count your blessings you didn't loose it early in the turn & hit that concrete lip stickin up
now get back on that bad boy & make that turn your bitch, turn around & hit it goin the other way

i probably just ignored the 15 MPH sign because, from where it was, the turn looked really innocuous.
Going back again i guess it wasn't SO bad... i just panicked because the turn didn't open up when I expected it to. Slow down, Elaine![]()
heh, probably close to 50... slowed down real fast though when i grabbed the brakesOriginally posted by Mystery Squid
How fast do you think you were going when you entered??
That seems like a really cool curve too, I can clearly see how deceptive it is...by the time i hit the ground i was probably slower than 15, heh
where is that anyway?

Thats looks like a fuggin awesome turn..............
You should drawn wher your bike went down, landed,etc
Bike looks like it came out pretty damn good.....After seeing a couple crashes up close and personal while @ Deal's Gap I highly reccomend Frame sliders

the red X being where I grabbed the brakes cuz I saw i was about to cross the centerline, fell over, and then i slid across the road and into the ditch. definitely a good thing that the bike went into the ditch and not into the concrete lip!
i actually have frame sliders, but they just weren't big enoughwell actually i think it was sliding around int he gravel ditch that caused most of the damage

well, is your frame fucked up? if not, the frame sliders did their job.... they're not "plastic savers"![]()

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
It does not look like you followed/planned to ride the apex of that turn......oops......
Lucky for you no on coming traffic.....
Life is full of curves...just lean into them!!!
My first impression of the turn is that.. You coulda made it. You would have been damn low for sure and prolly scraped a peg. But, seeing where you marked the X as the lock up point I think if you had continued with neutral throttle with a mild transition to positive throttle while looking through the apex of the turn you def. could have made it.. would been scary as hell but she'll stick.. just gotta trust your tires.
While I'm sure you're right about that Scott, do you think that's the lesson to be learned here? I mean, this isn't the track, it shouldn't be about shoving the bike over beyond your comfort level and "trusting that she'll stick", right?Originally posted by RSVMILLE661

What I'm trying to say is, I don't think you should walk away from something like this saying "I coulda made it if I pushed harder", you should walk away from it saying "I shouldn't have gone into a blind turn so hot on a road I don't know with a bike I got two weeks ago."
Darrell you are absolutely right. There is a huge lesson to be learned here and yes I feel as though personal levels were pushed too much too soon on a higher level bike.
I was attempting to make reference that even tho she was going to fast for her own abilities she could have made it.. and to keep practicing but perhaps not at such high levels on the street. But if elaine should find herself in a situation similar to that in the future then perhaps she might be a bit more fortunate..
all in good time I suppose..

Though before one can trust one's tires maybe one needs to GET OFF ONE'S ASS AND GET THE GOOD TIRES ONE BOUGHT MOUNTED INSTEAD OF RIDING AROUND ON SHITTY ASS OEM TIRES WHICH ARE SCALLOPED AND FLATSPOTTED AND WAY PAST THEIR USEFUL LIFE![]()

If your speed was 50, you wer NOT going to make it around the bend. On the other hand, if your speed was fifty, you'd probably be in the hospital from hitting that embankment.
Have you taken MSF? We teach you exactly how to avoid this, and deal with it if it does happen.
